These topics need to come sooner before the album gets "talked out" in the Best Of threads. My only problem with the album is that they could of done something more with "Love Like a Sunset". Other than that I'm really loving the rest of it, "1901", "Fences" and "Rome" = tasty stuff.

It's pretty feel-good stuff, not too saccharine or anything; but they way the singer constantly repeats simple words and phrases is really bugging me initially. I don't mean to bash it too much, because it really compliments a nice walk on the beach with it's sunny open sound.

He actually has a pretty amazing grasp of American vocabulary and the rhythm of our words. They're French, he's singin in his second language. The dude's married to Sofia Coppola and he can't sing well live. But this and their last album are both doing what the Strokes were supposed to do after Room on Fire.

You're going to cut him some slack because he's foreign? Okay, go ahead. I just hope you're not a professional critic.

I feel like this and It's Never Been Like That are two of the best Summer albums of the last couple of years.

Dude married Sofia Coppola? Nice. No wonder his song made it into Lost in Translation. Really, though, this is a simple but fun record and I've really enjoyed it.

The Strokes just needed the hype to die around them. Now I believe they have a chance for a comeback. Hopefully all this solo crap each band member has been releasing wont affect the Strokes new music (that's if they're even making any ).

Strokes? Whatever. Phoenix trumps Strokes anyday. I've only heard "1901," but good god, what a single. I'm really, really looking forward to hearing this in its entirety.

I'd prefer Is This It? to any Phoenix album, personally. As for the newest record, it's good, but I don't get the amount of praise it's been getting around these parts. Nothing about it strikes me as bad, but something about it strikes me as bland. I like it about as much as I liked their previous effort, but that's about it. It doesn't overwhelm me; I just don't find anything that I want to come back to for more than a few songs.

I hear ya. I think they're one of the better indie pop bands out there, though. A good mixture of great guitar pop with some electronic/new wave textures.

Yah, I agree here. Besides "1901", I think "Love Like a Sunset" is a fantastic song. I love the extended introduction, the slower pace, and the colorful texture to it. I first heard that song (and this album) on my morning drive, about 20 minutes before the sun would come up, and I remember being mesmerized by this song while I was cruising along in my typical morning haze.
