I like Eluvium but this was way too... organic? (I've heard that term thrown around and it seems to apply) It couldn't hold my attention. I like M83 and Eluvium's take on ambient because even the birds chirping and all the natural sounds sound so unnatural. I think that's beautiful and interesting and.. Idk, I'm gonna give this album another shot. Maybe it'll sound better this time.

Melodically and structurally SotL are more pure "ambient." What I mean is that they are interested in the purity of long tones and the space created by interactions between those tones. Whereas Eluvium crafts hypnotic looped melodies, SotL send out their drones and never look back. Incredible album, although it's to be expected from these guys by now, having released some of the best ambient music out there.
