Destroyer has delivered another knockout of an album, yet again.

Has anyone else heard this gem yet?

Thanks Doctor! I was looking forward to this, because I love 'Rubies'...

Can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all...

I'll check it out. Although, I have to say, other than a few songs I really never understood the major attraction to Rubies. I'll admit he has talent though. So, I'll listen with interest.

I've met Destroyer several times and I've had the chance to interview him for my school paper as well. He was also a member of Oink.
You guys can thank my friend for this leak though.

This is sounding good. One of the few problems I had with Rubies is that the music was somewhat meandering and "easy-listening"-ish, so despite the fact that Bejar's lyrics were excellent the music really failed to grab me outside one or two songs. This seems to have much more interesting music... I like, I like.

Thanks, for the link! Bejar can do no wrong in my book. So far, this sounds like another winner to me.

FilZip is free and it will open just about any type of file archive - including .rar, .zip, .tar, .gzip, .cab, and a bunch of ones i've never even heard of.

Doctor, you're awesome, thanks so much. And Eric, thanks for the tip, that program allowed me to delete about four others. Smiler

What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did he get so high?

I'm not sure what you would call it, but there are songs performed by many artists that really strike me hard towards the end of a track. For example, track 5 on Trouble in Dream is called My Favorite Year and towards the end of it, you can hear him say "1, 2, 3, 4" and then it kicks off into a... I'm not even sure what to call it but it really just takes the wind right out of me.

There are other examples such as "Smashing Pumpkins - Thru the Eyes of Ruby". The last 30 seconds or so of that song is incredible to me. Another not-so-similar to what I mean is Smashing Pumpkins - Farewell and Goodnight (last track on Mellon Collie) has an incredible ending to it. I guess another example is Eminem - The Kids although it's not exactly great. Can anyone think of any other songs that do this because for whatever reason, I really really enjoy it.

Regarding Destroyer - Trouble in Dream... wow. I liked his first album but not as much as this. Not even close. 9/10.

What do you mean "his first album"? I hope you don't think Rubies was the first album...

I'm happy to see old fashion Smashing Pumpkins are getting some respect. they created an amazing amount of great music in their prime.

The recurring piano theme on "Mellon Collie" has always been one of my favorite bits of that great album. I just love bits of other songs coming back into new songs. Bejar does this a lot - maybe not with the music but definitely with lyrics. He'll cite his own old lyrics as well as trot out a few tried-and-true lines from older music. I forget if it was on Rubies or Streethawk, but he did say "Phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust," and I just had to smile.
