after three or four listens, i really like this. i've been a fan of their work since the beginning but have always wondered what they'd sound like with a more pop-ish sound, less post-rockish.
Mix a little folly with your plans: It is sweet to be silly at the right moment.
I thought the Pitchfork review today was spot on. The first four tracks are fantastic. Then on track 5 "Festival", the 1st half is a snore, but the 2nd four minutes are fucking incredible. Then the rest of the album returns to their same slow formula they've run into the ground over their past few albums thats not near as interesting as when they did it on Ágætis Byrjun.
Whoever makes Ambien needs to worry about their stock price. Starting this album on track 7 and playing through 11 is not recommended while operating heavy equipment.

The Fork review panned Ára bátur though. While I think it maybe goes over the top at the end, and doesn't do it sas well as Festival, the first half is pretty much gorgeous in my opinion. Unlike Festival.
On the whole, at the moment I'd say this is probably my 3rd favourite Sigur Ros album, behind Takk and Ágætis Byrjun.

Spot on. First four tracks are incredible, especially the the first two. After that, the only song I remotely enjoy is song #6 which follows "Festival". The English track may be the weakest.
