Yeah, pretty craptastic video. I liked the video they had for "The Bucket" from their last album. That was very cool.

Because 7.8 is higher than 7.4? Wink

I don't see what's so difficult to understand about their scoring system. If anything it's even more specific than a site like allmusic, where every album that comes out gets between 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 stars.

I just picked up the new album yesterday and it has been spinning all day. I really like it except for track 2. What the hell is that!?! Maybe the worst song I've ever heard and I couldn't stomach more than 30 seconds of it. Seriously, WTF is that?

This album is growing on me, and much like P-Bo, it has been spinning all day. However I like the loose yelps on the second track and I do like that song, it kind of reminds of the playful yelping at the end of My Morning Jacket's "Wordless Chorus." There isn't a better song than the opener on that entire album though.

This is where a difference of opinion must be cited. I do like the allmusic rating. When they give something a 3 and half I know it is significantly less than a 4 and a half. However, I am slanted because I do like the allmusic website and their core of reviewers much more than that of Pitchfork's. I go to allmusic first before anything else. When there is an album that I really want to get into, I check there and if they give it a 4 and a half that makes me want to check it out more. I guess I prefer the star rating method and you prefer the number/decimal method. Oh well, you are good in my book PJ, bygones. Smiler

So maybe I check it every once in a while to see what news they have or what interviews they have. For all you know, I may have been reading the interview they had with Carl Newman because I am a big New Pornographers fan and saw the review. So maybe I clicked on it and read it, that doesn't mean that I follow the website religiously like many of you do.

well think of a 7.4 as a C-... and an 8.7 as a B+ if that makes it easier.

Here's how Metacritic does the number to letter grade conversion, if anyone's really confused:

A or A+: 100
A-: 91
B+: 83
B: 75
B-: 67
C+: 58
C: 50
C-: 42
D+: 33
D: 25
D-: 16
F+: 8
F: 0

Yep, there's no way I could have any respect for myself liking music from a band that thought it was cool to act and look like that. If I did like them and then saw that video, I'd start to question my taste.

I thought they came across pretty cool in the "Bucket" video from a few years ago also.

Oh that's fine. But I think the point is there isn't very much difference between a 7.8 and a 7.4. Like, if you get a C in a class, do you really care whether or not you get a 78 or a 74? Probably not, although technically you got a little more of the material right if you recieved a 78. Of course there is a big difference in getting a 9.0 and a 7.0, the equivalent of either getting a 4 1/2 mark or a 3 1/2 mark on allmusic.

I guess the thing I don't like about allmusic is like I said practically every new review that pops up gets somewhere in the range of 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 stars. It's like they're afraid to say anything is too spectacular or too crappy and like to tread water somewhere in the middle. And of course there's no way to really tell the difference between a 4 star review from reviewer A and a 3 1/2 star review from reviewer B. Maybe reviewer B just has higher standards than reviewer A.

Truthfully I enjoy both the pitchfork and allmusic sites for different reasons, but I always take another person's review of an album with a grain of salt no matter what. There might be a specific reviewer who I seem to see eye to eye with in most cases, but what it comes down to is I have to hear the music myself.

I think Wordless Chorus may be the best opener of an album in the last 5 years. Just a real inventive name for a song as well.

Haven't heard new Kings of Leon yet. Like their old stuff so interested in checking it out.

Day 2 update - I really like this album. I think it is just as good as anything else they have done. Track 2 still reeks like a double-fecesburger with cheese but the rest is really good. My early favorites are the 1,2,3 punch of "Ragoo" , "Fans", and "The Runner": all very strong tracks. My god, track 2 is horrible.

This is a fine, fine album. It has spun all day again and it is one of my favorite's. I know a lot of people here don't like them, personally I don't see what is so bad about the video Roll Eyes, but it is a terrific album. It's also getting some pretty good reviews, average of a 79 so far I think, I do like it a lot. My main man P-Bro and I are going to get together and blast this album loud to make up for all the haters out there!

I actually quite liked this album. I think it's the first album they put their heart and soul into. Definitely a 9 or 10.

This is the first KoL album I like from start to finnish. I like how they're moving away from just being a retro-rock kind of clone, and starting to create a unique sound of their own.

Arizona is my favorite song of the album.
