Has anyone heard the new KOL album? Im really enojoying it. Im thinking its their best since Youth and Young Manhood. If not better. Let me know what you all think.
I have streamed it several times but I just don't like it. I thought that after Aha Shake Heartbreak they were going to take a step up and make sometime amazing but amazing this isn't. It's a jumbled mess that lacks consistency and variance. The lead singer's voice has gotten significantly better, that's what happens when you practice, play live and make music at a moderate pace (Sean Lennon take notes,) but I just couldn't get into this album past the opener, which is a great song. A disappointment for me.

If you guys are interested, this one is streaming here. It is a great website that Hophead (give credit where credit is due ) showed me. They seem to have a lot of great new music streaming there. The website is not in English so just scroll down and in the bottom right corner there should be an icon of a CD, click there and the stream will open up. Scroll up or down to find the album you want. They had Low, LCD Soundsystem, Ted Leo and others streaming there recently. Now they have the new ones by Modest Mouse, Panda Bear and the Kings of Leon and like ten others. Check it out.
After re-listening to this album it sounds like a grower, not bad. Maybe I will change my mind on it, but I need to hurry because it is on sale at Best Buy for $8 this week only!

It is under the thing that says "KIJK EN LUISTER". There are some icons for a volume thing, and a movie reel icon, then the CD icon. It should be advertising Ibrahim Ferrer's posthumous release, Mi Sueno. Let me know if you find it.

Scroll all the way down, go to your right. There is something that says "DOE MEE" and below that is some people icons and other stuff. Above of that is "KIJK EN LUISTER". In there is "Live webradio 3VOOR12 Central" then "Live webtv 3VOOR12 Central" then the CD icon and next to it, "Ibrahim Ferrer - Mi Sueno." Click on that one! Then the stream will open up. Ted Leo is not there anymore.

OK, thanks, Bro! Glad to have such specific directions. I was in there earlier, but Ibrahim was already down further than I could see, so I guess that threw me off. Thanks again!

The only problem with this is that Kings of Leon's first album was right up there with My Morning Jacket and Drive-By Truckers. This mostly sounds like dried, leftover crap crepes. At least, I'm trying to be honest. I understand that it sounds flippant, but God, this doesn't sound anything like that other band on the first album. I get the feeling that they think they're making their Z, but it's more of a zzzz. (Sorry, hal!)

i like their first single "on call" a lot.i love the way he sings only in that track.i m not a fan of KOL but i ll give them a chance with their new album
I finally got around to hearing this, and it didn't really change my opinion of the band. A few good tracks and a bunch of so-so ones. Maybe it was overshadowed by the great Twilight Sad album I also got yesterday.

Well the cool kids at Pitchfork reviewed this one and gave it a 5.4. Not sure how to take that though, their first two albums got a 4.2 (Young and Young Manhood) and a 4.9 (Aha Shake Heartbreak). So what makes this one half a point better than their previous or 1.2 better than their first? I don't really care much about Pitchfork but their scoring system is obviously flawed and rather incomprehensible. Plus this review is written poorly, no one cares what you are thinking about while listen to the opener or whether you think they are "Southern Strokes" or the "next U2." I will check out this album again.

The p4k review didn't surprise me...they've never been KoL fans. They're one of those bands that's a little too mainstream to be indie cool (see Coldplay, The Killers), but not mainstream enough to be ironic cool (see Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake).

Haha, well it's not as if album reviews can be widdled down to an exact science. It's obviously subjective, and, you know, a product of the opinion of the person doing the reviewing.

Obviously you checked Pitchfork's site and felt compelled to comment on their review - so don't pretend like you don't care.
Obviously flawed, because you disagree? AHAHA you must think highly of yourself.
A reviewer's job is not to judge an album comparatively. He need not listen to an entire band's discography to cross-reference past scores and decide, "well this album is 1.5 pts better than the last one". Each album is individually scored, so unless it is written by the same reviewer, comparing the two is meaningless.

So maybe I check it every once in a while to see what news they have or what interviews they have. For all you know, I may have been reading the interview they had with Carl Newman because I am a big New Pornographers fan and saw the review. So maybe I clicked on it and read it, that doesn't mean that I follow the website religiously like many of you do.

I think the system is flawed because I dont understand the point in the 6.8 scoring and so on, not because I disagree with the review and wish that they would take my opinion and give it a B- than a 6.2 or whatever. It is flawed, how is anyone supposed to know whether a 7.8 is better than an album that got a 7.4. How is anyone going to tell the difference? It isn't that I think so highly of myself but rather that I don't understand their scoring system at all.
