I agree. I'd love for you guys to fill me in on all the indie rock/pop records that this sounds like, because I've been missing something. These songs are completely deconstructed from typical song forms and put back together in the most creative ways. But what makes it special is that if the songs had been recorded in typical fashion, they'd still stand up as great pop/rock songs. But the arrangements are so creative and surprising. The saxaphone and horns are awesome as well. The drums are amazing. I could go on and on. Anyways, for each their own.

I realize many of you loved 2006, but it wasn't that great for me in terms of the music selection. I have another problem now: Too much sh!t to listen to! Clap Your Hands Say Yeah should be at my door any day, I can't break away from Menomena to listen to Deerhoof and Of Montreal as much as I would like (although they both sound great a couple of listens in), and I just read on Pitchfork that Modest Mouse will join Arcade Fire as a March release. If February has any releases I've forgotten about (I might check out Apples in Stereo), I might need to start picking up some extra days at work (more money, less listening time Confused)!

OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS ALBUM.
They're seriously closer to being the next Radiohead than anyone. It's so original and I think their next album could be even better.

No, I don't think so. I don't want to automatically put anyone's tastes down but I dont get this band and their latest album. It's ok but it is unstructured, messy and rather boring at best. So I think that we should cool it with the Radiohead comparisons for a bit--there is no need to bring them up here.

I was reminded of how awesome Menomena's debut is today when I listened to it on the way to class, especially when compared to the sad sack of crap that is their new album. Ah, shit, I was gonna say more, but I gotta go to my brother's high school B-ball game right now. More later...on I Am the Fun Blame Monster that is.

So anyways, I Am the Fun Blame Monster. All the reviews on this thing kept saying what great fun it is. I believe PopMatters called it "unadulterated fun" in their review of the latest Menomena album. Did they even listen to the album? There are a couple instances of playful jocosity, but it strikes me as a rather serious and emotional album. I mean, seriously, listen to it! There is no way in hell you can call it unadulterated fun. It is a really good album though.

This album is very rewarding with repeated listens. Not because it is challenging, just because it becomes more familiar and fun with each listen.
The weirdness is initially interesting but perhaps a little hard to follow. I liked the album right away, but now that I've listened to it about 6 times, the tunes just resonate more I don't know, everything just works so well - the tunes, the instrumentation just keeps me interested and happy all the way through. This album really has a jubilant feel to it unlike any album I've heard in a while.

Well, I took your advice and picked up "Fun Blame Monster." Holy Portishead! There's a serious trip-hop vibe to this that I love and is totally absent from the new one. I can see how you like it so much, as this is also a really good album. More drums, more sax. I'm really enjoying this and highly recommend to the Friend & Foe fans out there.

Anyone out there hear it?

I loved this album pretty much right away. Of Montreal stole all of it's initial thunder, but now that the waves have settled I've really come around to Friend and Foe's obtuse genius. I can see how someone might find it disjointed and uneventful, but SOMETIMES THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT. The drums have a strange machine-like attack that takes some getting used to, but you have to realize that the drum sound is rather novel. If the arrangements seem disjointed, take a breath. These guys definately knew what they were doing.

P.S. The comparisons to TV on the Radiohead are completely well-founded.

Since this thread got bumped, I'll chime in again and say that this album is holding up wonderfully. I've had it since its release and it continues to get better and better. "The Pelican" is awesome.
