It was "meh" for me too at first. Got into a bit as I let it play. Nothing special but at least I can say it's good.

Meh, is right. Mr. Mistletoe is just a bad song. The album does set a nice, relaxed tone but it doesn't seem very memorable and I don't see revisiting this in the near future.

Not exactly, but he is the driving artistic force. The first two records were pretty much SM and Susan Amway (vocals)-- if memory serves. Since then I think both Sam Davol and Claudia Gonson have been a part of all Magnetic Fields albums.

Okay. 2008 is going to have to do a lot better than this. I was really disapointed by this album. It's not very good.

I'll be specific. The distortion effects are alright, but they get old after a while. The melodies are too far hidden. The lyrics are lame, and are even worse when they attempt to be funny.

Wow, I thought it would be getting a little more positive feedback than this. But I digress...

I found it quite entertaining.

A nice, juicy, simple pop album. And I mean that in the best sense...

Sure, you can pretty much smell the influences a mile away, but that didn't bother me.

I really like Distortion -- not as much as, say, Get Lost or 69 Love Songs, but it's still a solid record (and a lot better than i IMHO).

I think this album is pretty good. I don't think the distortion distracts at all from the melodies, but I listen through a pair of pretty nice Etymotic earphones, so that might be a factor.

Highlights for me are "California Girls," "The Nun's Litany," "Too Drunk to Dream," and especially "Drive on, Driver."

They're great, aren't they?
