Anyone else heard it? I actually think that it is better than his 2006 official release (Nuclear Daydream) because of how loose it is and how there are not layers and layers of vocal overdubs, etc. I also think many of the songs are stronger. There were some songs and especially lyrics on Daydream that made me cringe a little ("Don't Give Up On People?") It's my favorite JA album since Come to Where I'm From.
So what do you all think of it?
Also, secondarily, as this happens more and more, what do you think of artists giving away music via their website? Can you fairly compare the work with their officially released output?
I saw JA twice this year. The Philly show—the first on the tour—was a little uninspired, and it almost erased Nuclear Daydream from my mind. The show in Sellersville did the opposite; it was impressive enough to give me a different outlook on some of the weakest moments of the disc. I like it a lot more now. The new material was written with a band in mind—not solo and performed live with one—so it works better. I wonder if Let's Just Be is the album he intends to officially release in early 2007.
