As for 2009, it looks that kid films will rule (dates subject to change of course).

March 25: Monsters and Aliens (children action)
May 29: Up (children's animated blockbuster)
July 1: Ice Age Dawn of Dinosaurs (sequel)
July 17: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (sequel)
July 24: G-Force (animated children's adventure)
August 7: Shorts (children's animated adventure)
October 16: Where The Wild Things Are (based on the children's book)
November 6: A Christmas Carol (3-D)
November 6: The Fantastic Mr. Fox (Roald Dahl's story)
December 25: Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel
December 25: The Princess and the Frog

There are the usual sequels and prequels as with Ice Age, Harry Potter noted above, Alvin and the Chipmunks along with the usual movies of varying quality and popularity.

May 1: X-Men Origins - Wolverine (prequel)
May 8: Star Trek
May 15: Angels and Demons (sequel)
May 22: Terminator Salvation (prequel/sequel)
June 26: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (sequel)

And then there that the other movies that have potential for fame and glory.

January 30: Taken (popular thriller)
March 13: The Soloist (postponed from last year)
March 13: Sunshine Cleaning (independent)
May 8: Adoration
July 1: Public Enemies
July 31: The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (remake)
August 7: Julie and Julia
September 9: Nine (musical drama opening on the ninth day of the ninth month of 2009)
September 18: The Informant
October 2: Shutter Island (psychological thriller)
October 23: Amelia (docudrama, all-star cast)
November 20: Sherlock Holmes
November 20: The Three Stooges (sleeper)
December 18: Avatar (sci-fi)

2009 doesn't look like a bust out year, but there are a few movie gems to look forward. On the good side, maybe all of us can save some money by not having to go see as many movies.
