Phantasy Star II – I consider this the grandparent of FF7. If you disagree, you are wrong. Herzog Zwei – This was the birth of all RTS games as we know them now. Lakers vs. Celtics – A basketball game with the most personality I’ve seen to date. Ghouls n’ Ghosts – Look, Ma! The arcade followed me home! Can we keep it? Budokan – A deep appreciation for martial arts, packaged neatly in the form of a game. NHL ‘91 – What every Canadian boy should have been required to play. Sword of Vermillion – An RPG with more “action” than you could shake a stick at. Populous – The ultimate god game.

Phantasy Star I was THE RPG for the Sega Master System. Though it is nothing special by today’s standards, it was so far ahead of its time, it’s not even funny. Great game… which leads me to the Genesis.
For the Genesis, I left the Genesis seen shortly before Phantasy Star III. However, I did get an emulator and tried out Phantasy Star IV recently. I haven’t finished it… yet, but wow! The first hour was pretty fantastic. Great story pacing… interesting… and fun. This game was apparently the pinnacle of Genesis RPGs. I feel confident enough to recommend that you get an emulator and give it a shot.
Broaden your retro-RPG prowess, young Bob.

Along with the Phantasy Star series Cody mentioned, the first two Shining Force games and Shining in the Darkness are great Genesis RPGs that I beleive are essiential to your collection.

Curious if someone could help me out with this name of a game., I had it and sold it long ago but I cant get it out of my mind for the last 2 weeks, it was on the GENESIS (best ever system) and you were on the back of a flying dragon in a game play style VERY similar to After burner. it was one of the EARLY released genesis games. I thought it was Panzer dragon but when i look that up it keeps giving me Saturn system.. any ideas guys????
The original Sonic the Hedgehog rules. Good times, good times. Also, the original Toe Jam and Earl is great, too. Mortal Kombat 2 isn't too shabby, either.
I really hope you were joking by chosing Altered Beast, Lord Vietiel otherwise i fear for your sanity! Anyway, the best Megadrive game then. I couldn't chose one as there were so many super games on that great console. So, in no particular order, here are a small selection of the some of the best: Flashback - one of those rare games that was stunning in every concievable way. Sonic 2 - goes without saying. PGA Golf 2 - I'm still playing it now. Nuff said. Soliel - You've probably not heard of it but it really is one of the most polished, innovative and involving games i've ever played! Streets of Rage 2 - Simply the best scrolling beat em up ever. John Maddens - Set the standard for vidiogame gridiron for many, many years & still playable now.

There are many games I enjoyed from the Sega Genesis. What comes to mind are:
Mortal Kombat series Lion King Beavis and Butthead Sonic the Hedgehog Phantasy Star 4 Theme Park Earthworm Jim Zombies ate my neighbors Comic Zone (could've been longer imo though)
And there was an airline game. I can't remember the name of it but I was addicted to it for some reason. Something to do about managing airplane stock I think. Or maybe it was just stock altogether. I remember Pan Am was one of the stocks. Can anybody help me out with the name here? I'll put notification on so I'll see the reply even if it's a year or two from now. Thanks.
Edit: I found a list of sega games. I think it's supposed to be complete but I still couldn't find my game on there. Here's the link if anyone's interested:
