I'm sure every N64 owner had/has a copy of this game. It really was the main reason for buying a n64 in the first.
I've played countless FPS games on the various consoles throughout the years, but Goldeneye is still my favorite console shooter to this day.
I recently pulled my N64 back out again and put on Goldeneye. Sure, the graphics suck compared to today's games but the gameplay still rocks and the multiplayer is probably the best in a console fps ever.
How do ya'll feel about this game??

I love the game, it's my favorite FPS (although I don't particularly care much for the genre). I'd have to say it's been surpased many times in every area. Still, I think it has a place in gaming history as one of the best multiplayer gaming experiences of all time. And just because some FPS do things a bit better doesn't mean I'm going to stop playing this one.

goldeneye was groundbreaking when it was released and for that fact, it will be hard to produce a FPS with the same kind of impact. you can still go back to the game and play muliplayer and have more fun than 90% of the games out today, and thats a real testament.

Perfect Dark was better, but wasn't a milestone like Goldeneye.

I have lots of great memories of Goldeneye, but I play it now and it just seems dated and clunky. Perfect Dark improved on Goldeneye 100 times and has lasted a lot better.

Goldeneye was so much fun if played with an imagination. In the cavern level we played that we were defending a meth lab, you won by blowing up all the barrels. I also loved being Helicopter Pilot, Action Hero!

Hey guys. I was craving Goldeneye somethin' fierce so I just bought an N64 again ($20 at a CD exchange store) since I gave mine away a few years ago to my cousin. I'm loving it all over again but I want some other games. I was curious about Perfect Dark. Also, what is the best racing game for the 64? I never had one. I'm looking for any recommends (besides anything to do with Mario. I already know those are great). Shadowman was possibly the funnest game I have ever played but don't think I want to go through that one again. Ideas?

Yea, well you see this one? This was my dream, my wish....and it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back, I'm taking them all back.

Perfect Dark wasn't that great. I really liked Goldeneye a lot better. And even Turok 2 was much better than Goldeneye in terms of single player.

If I am not mistaken "Turok 2" came out some time after "Goldeneye 007." For single player, I would agree that "Turok" was better but "Godeneye" introduced a new era of gaming; multiplayer first person shooter which now permeates in gaming and is responsible for the brilliance of "Halo" and similar excellent shooters.

Edit:

"Turok 2" cam out December 1, 1998 and "Goldeneye 007" came out July 31, 1997, so as I said "Goldeneye" was better simply because it was the best game for its time.

Oh, sorry I wasn't responding to the original post. I agree that for it's time Goldeneye was far better than Turok 2. I just overall liked Turok better as a game.

Very good point if Perfect Dark came first it would have been as famous as Golden Eye. But to answer the question. I have more fun playin Halo 1 4-player split screen than I do with Goldeneye now. So yeah I think Halo surpassed Goldeneye.

I have so much fun on this game, especially with friends. We always go on licence to kill with pistols. Great fun. My favourite gun is the DD44 distovel. So good. I've also for some reason taken a shine to the golden gun.

I agree, goldeneye was such a seminal game for the N64 but Perfect Dark did do a good job trying to follow it up. I played it againon multiplayer for the first time in ages and it's still really enjoyable. Still never seen anyone finish control on 007 agent.

The only two games i got for N64 were Mario Kart which was rather good i think but Goldeneye was the most unbeatable and other James Bond Games still fail to beat the weapons that you used and also the levels and strategies that you were forced to play were incredible. the problem with games nowadays is the more realistic the games become the more things you threfore control and game play may become easily boring just imagine during gameplay you had to send James Bond to the toilet and make sure he washes his hands afterwards. Goldeneye Definately a top favourite.

That's what I'm thinking as well. I have a hard time understanding why the current developers are so obsessed with making stuff exactly like it is in real life. It sure takes the fun out of gaming in my book! If I want reality, I prefer to walk out the door an experience the real wold for myself!

Goldeneye is a superb game, but others have surpassed it. It was only one year later when another FPS came out which was far better, and that game was Half-life. Besides, others such as Halo have outdone Goldeneye already, mostly due to better multiplayer.

I partially agree, Halo has got a brilliant Multiplayer system but i thought that some of the levels for Goldeneye were super but obviously since then Weapons have improved and also really Tactics have improved. Just yesterday i thought that something simple on Battlefield 2 wouldn't work anymore because people have realised what other opponents are doing but i still got blown up by a land mine, but still other peoples tactics are soon used and then everyone does it.
