Has anyone seen this one? It looks pretty godawful. Anything that Kevin Spacey has done post-"American Beauty" is pretty much labeled as a stinker. Too bad that he's actually a really solid actor and this was one of his pet projects, but all I've been hearing is negative press.
I have to agree with mark, it's hardly fair to drop this into the worst films of the year sight unseen.
I saw the trailer last night and I'm at a loss to understand what looks so godawful. Darin's life story is at least as interesting as Ray Charles' and without Jamie Foxx's excellent performance, the latter's 2004 biopic would have been a pretty tepid affair.
Mark is also right regarding Spacey's singing. I've listened to the soundtrack twice and his interpretation of Darin is at least as good as Sissy Spacek's interpretation of Loretta Lynn for Coal Miner's Daughter, which I intend as high praise.

I'm not exactly saying I have a problem with this thread being in the WORST topic, but is it really FAIR to place it here without even giving it a chance? The scenes I've seen looked fine and Spacey's singing (he's not dubbed) seemed especially good.

I actually hadn't heard of the film until you mentioned it. But, I have since seen the trailer and read a bio of it. I am not sure what to think of it to be honest. My first thought was that it might just have been created due to the creation of "Ray" but that seems unlikely. I hope it is good because the only thing that was not a stinker after "American Beauty" was "The Life of David Gale" and that wasn't that good either.
