I saw this afternoon and found it quite entertaining. A few of the musical numbers I found over-the-top... but overall, entertaining and well done. Great acting. I actually appreciate beyonce for once, and I feel that an American Idol has finally done something that wasn't pure crap.
The fascinating component of this movie is that I was not surprised or upset that the movie itself did not receive an Acadmey Award nomination, I was really impressed and feel that Jennifer Hudson's performance was consistently great and deserving of her best supporting actress award. Usually I have found that best picture, best director, best acting awards are related to some extent. But in this case Jennifer's presentation was not diminished one bit by the lack of the overall movie's stellar but not without great success.

i completely agree with you.the family song and the step into the bad side one made me wanna shoot something but yeah props to hudson and murphy, and for a few powerful numbers (such as the one where hudson sings to foxx after discovering she's been replaced). and eddie murphy! who knew he could be serious?! did lose momentum at the end, i hate to say it. thats why the departed should win oscar. it had us at the end, where dreamgirls lost us, though opened strong
