Can someone explain why this movie was hated by just about every person and critic who has seen it? I understand it wasn't Saving Private Ryan or Schindler's List but it wasn't a disaster. I'll admit when I saw the previews, I thought it was going to be a long boring 2 hours but I've never found myself so interested in a movie like this. Tom Hanks did a great job and it turned out to be funnier than just about every other movie I've seen so far this summer. I'm sure it's just me but it's always the movies that don't try so hard to be funny that make me laugh and it's movies like Dodgeball that I end up walking out of.

I'm not a huge fan of these type of comedy/romance/drama movies and perhaps that's why my standards aren't as high. I guess I'd rather hear from people who enjoyed it than from those who didn't but I'm also interested in criticism that isn't from critics and isn't a comparison to other Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg films.

I think people didnt see the movie, because it looked two things: generic and totally different. I know that's an oxy moron, but yeah. Tom Hanks was playing a Russian. People who are conservative in their film going probably shunned it away for that reason. Those who accepted that Mr. All- American turned into Mr. Non-American thought it looked a little too same-y to be considered worth a view. Now, this is coming from someone who hasnt seen the film.

I agree with you both. I think a good director is able to direct different types of films. And Spielberg has done horror, sci fi, war, drama, comedy, fantasy, and everything in between. I thought that the terminal was very funny and it made me feel good too.

Well Apathy, I'm on your side. I didn't understand why the critics trashed it so much. Here's my problem...people thing just because it's Spielberg, that it has to be another Private Ryan or Schindler's List. WHY?!!! Why can't the guy just make a movie about whatever he wants to and people judge it for what it is and not for what they thought it should be based on his previous works? "This was not on par with his other films" they say. Screw that. I loved this film for what it was. It was a story, like many of his films are, about a guy trying to get home. And I thought it was put together in an original and heart-felt way. Parts that made me laugh, I felt, were natural. I didn't feel like he was trying to be funny or make me laugh, it was just a natural part in the progression of the film and the progression of victor Navorski's life in the airport. I think Spielberg should feel proud about the movie he made.

Yea, well you see this one? This was my dream, my wish....and it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back, I'm taking them all back.
