Vanessa Redgrave gives a splendid performance in this death and dying movie that revisits her character's past in flashbacks while her daughters face their own futures in the "now." Evening is likely the beginning of many movies that will deal more authentically with death as aging babyboomers begin to face their own mortality. While this movie isn't without its apparent flaws and irritable oversights, the way the subject matter is handled and the fabulous cinematography provide a meaningful and valuable insight into the new genre of gerontological film-making.
