For some reason, I have been meaning to see "Ice Castles" for quite some time now, and I happened to catch it cable tonight. It was one of those movies of my youth that I just never had a chance to see. What a great movie! Not great by Academy standards, but I defy any guy to watch that movie and get a massive crush on Lynn-Holly Johnson. (And I know all the girls at the time were flocking to Robby Benson as the boyfriend). The fact that Johnson was a professional skater as well as being a great actress really made the movie.... In fact, I think this would make a good companion piece to "Downhill Racer" with Gene Hackman & Robert Redford.
Wow, and I was the girliest fairy princess ballerina girl there was and when I saw this movie on the Sunday Afternoon Movie of the Week somewhere between 7 and 10 years of age, I thought it was sooo cheesy. But maybe that was BECAUSE I saw it on the Sunday afternoon at the movies, which I watched particularly because they showed movies that were laughably bad, even to an elementary school viewer.
But then again, I didn't have a crush on the ice skater. That probably also affects my viewing of it.

Well, of course when I saw this movie, long before I was married, I didn't just have a crush on her, I basically fell in love with her. The scary thing is that, unless I'm completely brain-dead, she reminds me of Hillary Duff now.
