I went to see Babel when it was in cinemas in Australia and was baffled by how boring I found it.
I have a deep passion for films and literature which explore the similarities and differences between cultures (Thing Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe being one of my favourite books). However, I found Babel dull and somehow poorly executed. I find difficulty in trying to articulate exactly why I found Babel so distasteful.
After watching Babel rise to popularity and prestige in America I thought maybe it was a film aimed at Americans.
Both my parents and my American sisters, all of who are well cultured and educated, far more so than myself, also didn't like this movie.
I'm wondering if people could explain exactly why they found this movie so appealing; or the reverse. I welcome posts from people of all cultures, as I find this issue quite intriguing.

While I didn't find this movie much to my liking, the popular audience and it seems many critics liked the sad cultural story, sort of how THE BOURNE SUPREMACY begins with a tragic death. Unfortunately, I found BABEL being too ambitious in its attempt to cover too many subplots, themes, characters which I found distracting the diluting the major strands of the movie.
