The film is shocking and chilling to say the least. The children are "preyed" upon and as a result become victims of sexually perversive child abuse, who without saying become emotionally scarred for life. It provokes and illustrates the "dark side" of the human psych, a dark side, which for many in my opinion dare not to see or even believe. This realistic element is well brought out by the actors and actresses along with good scripting throughout the entire film. This film is not for the weak hearted or persons with a weak stomach. I give this film a 10+
I just watched this film. It's powerful, well-made, well-acted and definitely not for everyone. As a serious delineation of the effects of child molestation, I find it much more honest than the overrated Mystic River. However, I also find some of it difficult to watch and still too-sensationalistic. Still, it's easily director Greg Araki's best feature to date (The Living End being his previous high watermark), and I expect him to break into the big time with an even better script.
