Warner Bros. pushed back the opening date of Oliver Stone's Alexander from Nov. 5 to Nov. 24 because it wanted Stone to cut some of the love scenes between Alexander, played by Colin Farrell and his male lover Bagoas, played by Francisco Bosch, according to MSNBC.com's "Scoop" column. It quoted an unnamed insider as saying, "Some of the suits at Warner Bros. think that the movie-going public just isn't ready to see that. ... There's some pretty heated arguments going on over it." Alexander is depicted as a bisexual in the film, which also includes heterosexual love scenes involving the title character. A Warner Bros. spokeswoman declined to discuss the report, saying "We wouldn't talk about anything involving the process of making a movie."
Man, I think we were all capable of dealing with the gay stuff in "Spartacus." What's the problem here?? You'd think liberal Hollywood would be able to deal with a little male smooching. So much for artistic integrity in the studio system.

Now examining this movie from the Spring of 06, CharlieB was correct. The gay issue was the least of problems confronting this movie. I am discovering that even in the Bible Belt people can tolerate gay themes in movies as long as it is done in such a way as not to cram it down their throats. Tastefully done, even when disagreeing with the lifestyle, they can deal with the historical reality of Alexander being gay. It was just not a good movie. There was probably no historical character with any more personal deth, family dynamics, and political signifcance than Alexander. I do not feel I was allowed to know the possible peronality of Alexander. I left the theater knowing that he loved conquering the world, and was probably bisexual. I was introduced on the most superficial level to the unhealthy relationships he had with his parents. Considering the length of this movie I can't believe I left with no more insight into the man that before I bought my ticket.
Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

Ollie and Warner Brothers wish it was a gay issue that was the reason they pushed back the release date. That was a fig leaf. They knew they had a turkey on their hands that is now destined to become a camp classic.
The "gay" issue is dead in the water now. Originally, some Greek lawyers where going to try to prevent this movie from being released on the strength of rumours surrounding this issue, but having seen it, have realised that there is no case to answer. I think much more troubling for this movie is the negative reviews it is recieving. We haven't got this movie down this way, but I had been keen to see it for its subject matter, and on the strenght of the people involved. "No publicity is bad publicity." they say, but on the strength of what I've heard, I'll be waiting for the DVD.

That's to bad. I wouldn't have gone to see it any way. I tend to stay away from epic type pics. Then again I was into Lord Of The Rings movies. So I guess I am being two face when I say that. Donna A.

I think there is going to be a lot of changes in movies. I like the idea of frontal nudity for men. Girls have been kissing each other for some time. Guys should be getting into the act also. One more wall to kick down. Donna A.
