I looked for a similiar thread but found none, I hope this is the right spot for this topic.
I've picked up a few magnificent, awe-inspiring comps over the years of psych, folk, beat, rock,
instrumental and other styles from Turkey. Usually these are songs from mid 1960s to mid-late 1970s.
My top three favorite comps of such music are:
Hava Narghile (Dionysus / Bacchus Archives)
Turkish Delights (Grey Past)
Love, Peace & Poetry: Turkish Psychedelic Music (Shadoks)
Turkish Delights is currently out-of-print but the other two albums are pretty easy to come by. Aquarius, Bomp, Other Music and Forced Exposure are a few online shops that offer these cds.
Some of my favorite Turkish psych/folk artists include Mogollar, 3 Hur-el, Erkin Koray, Edip Akbayram, and Bulent. A great site to read up on and find samples/downloads of these artists is at
Turkish psych-folk encyclopedia.
My recent renewed interest in this music came after I bought a copy of Selda's 1976
Vurulduk Ey Halkim Unutma Bizi album from Dusty Groove. This is a totally fantastic amazing album, I was floored. I love the Middle Eastern groove meshed with a psych beat to her gorgeous pipes with a nice folky feel. Dusty Groove recently added a handful of Turkish titles to their stock, so there's another great place to hunt down this exciting music.
