There's nothing like the energy of a great reggae show! I'd love to see Max Romeo! Some of my favourite reggae shows have been Israel Vibration, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Culture and Burning Spear.
"If it were beneficial, their father would produce children already circumcised from their mother. Rather, the true circumcision in spirit has become profitable in every respect." -Jesus, from the Gospel Of Thomas
You've seen some great stuff man. Burning Spear! Max was funny. He's nearly 70, and he danced around for almost 2 hours in a bright yellow suit. Hopefully other disciples will flock to the ghettoised reggae section here in 'World,' and we can rise up and claim our own category on the main page. Them belly full, but we still hungry...

I love reggae though it's rare for reggae artists to perform hereabouts. The last reggae album I bought was Warrior King's Hold the Faith which I really enjoyed.

That's unfortunate for you that there aren't many reggae gigs in the State of Insanity. Maybe there aren't that many in the United States of Insanity either, which could explain the variety of tumble weeds drifting through this thread. All the living greats play here semi-regularly, and I'm aware that they tour Europe quite a bit too. The Skatalites aren't coming till later in the summer, but I'll be there. Oh yeah - I had some fun checking out your Turkish stuff. The music, not the smoke...

Do so my good man... I've been listening to Lee "Scratch" Perry lately, and also the Twinkle Brothers. Caught the Skatalites o'er the summer. 'Twas great. They were 45mins late for their own set. Perfect...

I saw the skatalites about 8 years ago, and they were amazing. Some of the players were pretty beat up at that point, and needed walkers and canes to get onstage, but once the music started, they played like they were still 20 years old. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
I haven't had the chance to see good raeggae, living in Colorado. There are a couple wannabe reggae bands around, but mainly they are sad.
I've really been enjoying the Congoes' "Heart of the Congoes" very much as of late. It was produced by Lee Perry, so it's got the dub feel, and the harmony is amazing - very spare, but gorgeous and haunting.
My other current favorite is Toots and the Maytals. Their album Funky Kingston is classic.
Is the George Faith song "To Be A Lover," with production credited to Scratch, just a dub treatment of a pre-existing soul song? Just throwing it out there in case anyone knows...

Now listening to "Be Together" from new reggae artist, Joseph Israel. Lyricwise, there are bounds to be comparisons to Matisyahu but musically, this is old school reggae. Members from Ziggy Marley's band are present and that classic Bob Marley sound is strong throughout. Rastafarian & Judaism themes to a great reggae beat, well, I love the album.
