This needed it's own discussion. I must say I am pretty angry at the Academy and dissapointed with the nominations. For those who haven't seen 'em yet, check them out here.
I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really wanted "Eternal Sunshine" to get nominated for Best Picture, and had thought that "Ray" wouldn't. But I was wrong. I haven't seen "Million Dollar Baby" yet, but out of "The Aviator," "Sideways," "Ray", and "Finding Neverland," none of them deserve to win.
If I had to pick one, I would pick "Finding Neverland," the only one to make it on to my top 100, But as I said before, none of them are worthy of best picture. Besides that, it's mostly what I expected. Whatever, I was very happy with the winners last year. I guess you can't be satisfied every time.

I admit I have to see Eternal again, but was initially not excited about it. After Kaufman's Malkovich and Adaptation, I thought it wasn't as strong. Garden State was definately in my top five. Sideways is my fav(aviator close second-have to see 2nd time) but I havn't seen Million Dollar Baby yet. And, I'm afraid it will become my fav. It looks good, and I'm hearing nothing but.

They should really hold the Oscars once every six months because they always seem to forget the movies and performances from early in the year. I'm sure most of the movie studios wouldn't mind

Or they could just screw the Oscars completely because they have become the definition of redundency (sp?). Give the Golden Globes a cool host, show it on a major channel (Not E!), and give it some Oscar-esque production values and it would make the Oscars obsolete.
Giamatti from "Sideways" got SCREWED out of his acting award. Maybe you need to be a little bit older (like me?) to truly put yourself in his shoes, but his performance was subtle and incredible. The "paper cup" scene was mind-blowingly real.

Umm... the Golden Globes are on a major channel (or has NBC fallen down the list of "important TV channels"?). E! only covers the red carpet.
As far as the nominations go, I'm not really a movie person, so I haven't seen most of the nominated films (except for "Collateral"-- Jamie Foxx did a nice acting job there). I usually wait for the DVD, which means I won't be seeing most of these movies until at least March.

I am as disappointed as some of you. Def. thought Eternal Sunshine should have been nominated for best picture also. The other annoying tidbit was that in the documentary category that Touching the Void gat a nom over Supersize me.

That's not a surprise. I heard that "Touching the Void" was a very well made, gripping docudrama while "Supersize Me" was interesting and fun, but not really oscar material.

Altough "Super size me" is very much a one trick pony, it is more a true documentary than the two perhaps more relevant "films" cited.
I could not disagree more. I know each person seems to have his/her own definition of "documentary" but Supersize Me is extreme. The guy was so one sided and unscientific inhis methodology I can't take him seriously.
