quote:I thought it was smart, funny, and well-written. It was one of the few laugh out loud movies I've seen this year.
I recently saw it, as I was in no real hurry, and afterwards I was underwhelmed. It was far too cliche in my opinion, too similar to "Bring it on" just too much adolescent ignorance. Although I think that Lindsey Lohan is a particularly good actor for her age, she proved unable to save the plot.

I saw Kill Bill 2 this weekend, and I'd probably add it to my favorites of the year, although I'd really like to see the two movies TOGETHER and see the whole vision as a package.
I would NOT add this to my year-end faves, but we also saw Elf and I laughed my tail off for the first 40 minutes or so. I find Will Ferrell to be absolutely hilarious...always have.
I'm looking forward to seeing Ocean's Twelve, although I worry it might be disappointing. I loved the Rat Pack original, and really enjoyed the Soderbergh remake. I hope he doesn't drop the ball on the sequel...

I found it very funny as well. If I was a critic I would probably give it a 6.5 out of 10.
I too am also concerned about Ocean's Twelve, I am just not sure the the previous one merited a sequel.

I recently saw Finding Neverland and loved it. The acting was superb by Kate Winslet and Johnny Depp. The characters were well drawn and it portrayed the relationships they held perfectly. Also, it showed the magic of Peter Pan and how the classic story was made.

Elijah, my family and I just saw "Finding Neverland", and we enjoyed it. My wife cried several times, amd my daughter loves Johnny Depp and liked the humor. I'm usually the sour puss. I thought all the "Peter Pan" material and his love for the children were well-delineated. I had a harder time appreciating J.M. Barrie's relationships with his wife and the widow. The drama in those scenes is extremely-low-key, and I often had the feeling that scenes were cut out to give all the true emotions to the children. I realize this could be a valuable thematic point: that children feel emotions deeper, but somehow it threw off the tone of the film. I still think it's a decent-enough film though, but the overall darkness might surprise some.

I absolutely loved "Ray" and think it was the best film of the year. Second comes "Eternal Sunshine" which I need to watch again to come to a full opinion. And in a distant third "The Incredibles" which was cute, funny, exciting, and slightly (just ever so now) dissapointing. If I'd star it I'd give it *** 1/2 which isnt exactly lackluster but my reasoning is as follows: I LOVED the HILLARIOUS first half but as soon as the story became more action oriented I felt it lost it's zany satirical edge to well-done action scenes. I'm not a fan of action, personally, but the marvelous animation and eccentric character design saved the latter half from becoming to much of what the first half was making fun of...

It seems as if the film would bore younger children and as if it attracts adults more. I looked around in the theater and was one of the youngest people in there. I think it would be more enjoyable to adults but I am not one so how could I really know?
I didnt cry during the movie though but Im not saying it wasnt sad or touching in any way. I understand your point that scenes were cut out to prove certain points. One of my relatives mentioned to me during my thanksgiving dinner than Peter actually grew up and committed suicide and was miserable. But, it is logical that they would take this out of the movie because how could that help anyone to enjoy it or prove the magic of Peter Pan?

Most of your comments I agree with (at least concerning "The Incredibles"); the part where you lose me is when you say that "The Incredibles" turns into what it was spoofing. I still think the last half is spoofing itself, all the way to the end, but it actually gets BETTER by completely supporting the concept of family, and that, even if not done in true practice, families should ALWAYS be the first place ANYONE gets support!
Several other things here to discuss but BYE!

The thing that strikes me after reading the opinions above, is the dirth of good movies so far this year. Oh, I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old, jaded and cynical, but I wish I had the capacity to sit through some of the mediocre fare on offer (Kill Bill 2, I'm looking at you) and enjoy them with the unfettered enthusiasm experienced by others. Mostly I just get bored, and this is the biggest crime any piece of entertainment can commit.

Team America was very funny but doesnt make it into my top 5 of the year. It was a great funny movie, but not a great movie.
Oh Oh Oh I thought you considered "Starksy and Hutch" one of the bes2t movies of the year and not your favorite. There is a difference. Or is there? Well, thats for another discussion...

What does that quote have to do with your post? I know by reading the title of this discussion, it is meant for only one movie, but after seeing what other people posted, I thought it would be fine to say more than one of my favorite movies of the year.

No thats not what I meant. You were questioning another persons pick of "Team America" saying it was just a great comedy and that's all. I was simply wondering what "Sarsky and Hutch" had that made it any better or different than "Team America"...thats all...it doesnt matter.
