Absolutely. Who cares about the scientific accuracy of TDAT (or even if it has a plot). Like "Independence Day," it should just be damned fun to look it.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid it can be nowhere near as good as "Disaster In the Sky (1977)," starring Bert Convy, Tina Louise, Burgess Meredith, Lorne Greene, Billy Crystal, and Regis Philbin.
Not only is it chock full of world class celebrities, but it contained not only a supersonic plane in danger of crashing, but also a deadly virus. It was such a good movie that my brother and I took pictures of the tv screen when we watched it so we could remember it forever.
And it was sooo much better than even a movie that has Shrek and Spider-Man and Harry Potter all fighting bad guys together on a super magical hero fighting team.

Great point. The fact that Bert Convy was in it, alone, makes it a superior film. If only Charo (or any other regular guest on the Love Boat) were in it, I'd have to buy the DVD.
Man, you are greedy, you have all of these fantastic stars and you need Charo too?
What you should do is watch this movie in a double header with Airport '79, then you will not only get extra added Charo, but will receive Robert Wagner, Marthe Raye, Cicely Tyson and Ed Begley Jr as a bonus. And the Concorde.
Now if they would make a movie about Harry Potter, Spider Man, Shrek and Brad Pitt as Achilles all stuck on an airplane that has one wing broken off, is on fire, has terrorists on board AND the pilots have food poisoning, I would say that was the best movie ever. Especially if Charo was in it too, and she gets eaten by Shrek accidently near the end.
I don't know... I'm still partial to "Towering Inferno"... how can you beat O.J. as a fireman? (Although it does lose points for having some real actors, like Paul Newman and William Holden... but it almost makes up for it by having Fred Astaire, of all people.)
The Day After Tomorrow does NOT intrigue me in the slightest. What was the last good apocolypse-caused-by-forces-of-nature movie you saw? Deep Impact? Twister? Exactly, there hasn't been one.
Furthermore, am I the only one that thinks that Brad Pitt is terribly cast for his role in Troy?
Deep Impact, obviously. Besides, Day After Tomorrow could still be great (looks like it might be). What use is citing precedent with these things?
Pitt is too controlled an actor for Achilles. He's a force of nature, while Pitt always seems to be thinking of what he's doing. He was all wrong for Joe Black for the same reason.
As far as the poll's concerned, I can't see past the Potter being just as massive as the last two.

Actually, I am a little bit intrigued about Harry Potter, being directed by Alfonso Cuaron.
I'm curious to see how that turns out, if it's any different than the others. Although I still don't think I'll pay $14 to satisfy that curiosity.
Not having kids, or being the least interested in kids and things that they're interested in, I've managed to stay completely untouched by the Shrek phenomena and I think I'll keep it that way.
I don't know what to think of Troy ... I can't really get my head around the idea. I'd probably watch it if someone wanted to take me to see it, and I'd say it has a 50/50 chance of being really good. And no Brad Pitt isn't exactly my idea of Achilles, but it's not a totally terrible idea either. I'm not enamoured of Pitt's acting skills but I also don't think Achilles is a terribly complicated character.
But massive amounts of natural disasters? Plot schmot ... I think it's going to look cool and be pretty fun to watch. I love disaster movies.
Actually, I think I'll only watch 2 or 3 films from the list above. Prisoner of Azkaban is pretty intriguing if not solely for the fact that Cuaron directed it and that it features an interesting cast that includes Emma Thompson if I rememembered right.
The other film would be Spider-man. It would be interesting to see how it is followed up. Shrek is a so-so, the trailer did not excite me at all (except for the Prince Charming and Fairy Godmother thing plus I never liked Puss The Boots anyway haha). Troy does not sound interesting. The day after tomorrow seems too familiar and cliche (logical follow-up to dinosaurs, aliens, meteorites, volcanoes, asteroids, twisters).
But we'll see. I just hope there are better movies this year.

Potter is the only one I'm really excited about, personally. I hated the first two films and can't stand the books, but... with Cuaron directing we're in an entirely different ballgame, aren't we?
The Spider-Man and Shrek franchise-extenders both look like classic sequelomatic products, and The Day After Tomorrow seems like an example of disaster movie one-upmanship to me. Troy I saw yesterday, and hated.
Potter it is, then...

The problem with the Day ofter Tomorrow is not that it won't be pretty to look at...I'm sure it will be. The problem lies in the fact that it HAS to be more than that. Forget that this guy wrote and directed ID4 and start remembering that he also wrote and directed Godzilla. Remember that movie? It was visually very cool...but all the great visuals in the world can't save a movie whose storyline and dialog is THAT bad. And from the 10 min preview it looks as though George Lucas could have helped the dialog in TDAT. This movie is going to be catastrophic. I hope it dies a fast, horrible death. If it doesn't the summer of 2006 is going to bite.

I dont know about you but Shrek 2 looks excellent and compared with the other choices it wins by default~
The Day After Tomorrow
Could be good! But that's a possibility that's open to any film ever made....I'd say good special effects, ok acting, bad story----which seems to be the criticism over almost all effects-heavy flicks.
Spider Man 2
First one was good. Overrated, but good. This one, I have my doubts about. From the story alone it looked like it could be cool, but ever since I saw that damned trailer with that bullet time car sequence I've just wanted to break things
Troy
I'm not really a fan of war movies, unless theyre done well, and seeing all the pretty-boys heading the cast my honest opinion is that Troy is a place to showcase Brad Pitt naked DISGUISED as the Iliad.
Harry Potter and the POA
Hey this looks great, really. Seeing, all the nice touches that Cuaron has added to accentuate the darkness (frozen glass slashing faces during Quidditch, anyone?) this has the most potential out of all of them!
Shrek 2
Shrek 2 looked lackluster after seeing the previews, but now that I've watched some "Making of" documentary on HBO (which sadly spoiled the jokes for me) I'm really looking forward to seeing it!
I am looking forward to Spider Man 2, the casting af Alfred Molina as Doc Ock is great! I also think Sam Raimi will do an excellent directing job. In the same way I am excited about Harry Potter 3 even though I didn't like the first two movies. The inclusion of Gary Oldman as well as ditching the pathetic directing "talents" of Mr.Columbus in favor of Alfonso Cuaron should make for a major improvement. Shrek 2 I will wait to rent. The Day After Tomorrow has piqued my interest as it is based on the Global Coming Superstorm novel. Troy I have seen and was fairly disappointed. The screenwriting was atrocious as well as the acting of Orlando Bloom as Paris and the barbie doll who played Helen. The other actors were all pretty good, the directing was fine, but the movie is sabotaged by it's awful script.
"If it were beneficial, their father would produce children already circumcised from their mother. Rather, the true circumcision in spirit has become profitable in every respect." -Jesus, from the Gospel Of Thomas
I'm guessing that TDAT will bomb, Spider-man 2 and Troy will disappoint, and Harry Potter will be okay. I saw Shrek 2, and it was pretty good, though I don't know if it will be THE most successful or best of the summer.
The best preview I've seen so far was the one for Hero. Anything with the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon style in it has to be good.
