I am a huge fan of Curb and was wondering what everyone thinks so far of season 5. I've noticed alot of criticism and disappointment from fans about how some of the eps are too unbelievable and/or just not funny. Personally, I welcome the wacky plots and crazy unbelievable accounts that LD has in the show even if they are a little far fetched. So far, my favorite episode this season is "The Christ Nail".

I've seen a few episodes. It's pretty good. Certainly not 91 good, but I didn't hate it.

I avoided it for a while because I read that the guy wrote for Seinfeld, and I hate Seinfeld. Also, it got glowing reviews, and when sitcoms get glowing reviews they normally end up being "Sports Night" or "Arrested Development".

A huge fan of curb, but no so much this season.

I have to say I agree. It's not as good as the last few seasons, but it's still a whole lot better than most other stuff on tv, and I'll definitely continue to watch it.

Now we know why Seinfield was so funny and quirky. Larry David is a comic genius in the line of Woody Allen. It isn't just comedy; it is smart sarcastic comedy.

Single greatest show of the 2000's; challenged only by The Wire.

Either way, the writing on Curb is exemplary.

Actually, almost all the show is improvised. Larry David writes a broad plot outline and the actual scenes are worked out one by one, on the spot.

My favorite episode is the one involving the doll's hair and the water bottle down the pants... as jerky and bumbling as Larry can be on the show, I can't help but feel sorry for him sometimes. His intentions are often good and genuine, and circumstance just flings him into a nightmare. (Funny nightmares)

Yeh, commontone, I do realize that the show is mostly improvised; it was my poor expression using "writing" when i shlda used dialogue....either way, hi-lair-e-us!

I particularly love the carwash cunt season closer......and I actually think David's character is a cool guy, who loses out mostly cos everyone around him is a twit or self-important...

To me, Larry makes a lot of sense a lot of the time, and it is others' inflexibilities and limited insight which cause most of the problems....so many examples could be used..

Anyone else dissapointed in the seasons CYE like I am?

I don't have HBO so i have to wait for the dvds to come out

however they do come in those neat sliding door dvd cases! I guess that helps ease the $40 or so bucks a season.

I rented season 4, got half way before having to return it, (I made sure I finished season 3 of seinfeld) maybe I will get it again.

Seinfeld is a favourite of mine curb seems to have similar charms. Albeit Drier, ruder, cruder and not made to be enjoyed by the masses.
It explores interesting situations in society which other shows wouldn't touch and that is what seinfeld did best. Also seinfeld really came together s04-07 when they added story arcs, curb s04 uses a story arc too.

Asthetics aside something I noticed was that the show returns, whether intentional or not, more of a classic comedic style in that everything goes wrong for the central character; which at times is irritating. I remember Jerry saying that traditionally everything that could go wrong did go wrong but in seinfeld they decided jerry was a character for whom lots of things worked out or at least broke even. I enjoyed this aspect as it prevented it from being overly dark and neurotic, especially through jerry's innocent disposition.
