Hey guys
I'm doing a research article on South Parks political influence on its cult viewers. I was wondering whether you could reply with any thoughts you have on Matt and Treys political standpoint and whether it influences your own opinion. Looking particularly at shows such as "Douche and Turd", "Cartoon Wars", and "The Passion of the Jew". If you could give me some quotes i would be extremely greatful.
Thanks very much

There are a lot of quotes at tv.com, but they do more of the funny ones then the politically relevant ones. There's a good quote near the end of douche and a turd that goes something like "In the end, whoever you vote for is either a douche or a turd"

I don't think Matt & Trey influence their viewers opinions a *whole* lot, so much as give arguments to viewers who already agree with their viewpoint.

There might be a handful of times I was mildly influenced.

Like, in the feeding tube episode, it made me realize... "Whatever they do to me if I'm ever in a persistent vegetative state, for the love of god DON'T put me on television in that condition!!"

And they made me think "Maybe people who choose to smoke knowing all the risks should be able to do so without being harassed about the health risks."

But mostly, they aren't that influencial. And sometimes leave me wondering if they really believe what they're saying. Like, they seem to think that if we don't arbitrarily invade countries once in a while, China will just invade us.

Now, teenagers who don't have fully formed political views yet, are probably more susceptible to their influence.

I agree with Trey and Matt on most things. They are libertarians as am I. I had arrived at my conclusions independently of South Park, and just noticed that many of the things they said agreed with me. They recently have said in interviews their political beliefs, but I've known for years.

EDIT: By "quotes", do you mean quotes of things said on the show, or just us talking about how South Park's messages affect us?

The thing I mentioned in my post was the 'Country & Rock and Roll' episode. Mostly I have no objections to the views expressed in the shows, but in that episode they basically argued that invading any other country on any pretense is justified because we need to make the occasional show of force to the rest of the world.

Which really, really rubbed me the wrong way.
