Wow, this show is just plain great, which makes the fact that it got canceled only after fourteen beautiful episodes all the worst. It's such an unforgettable show and the mere fact that there is Serenity, the movie sequel which is also f---ng excellent, is a testament to that considering that movie sequels are rarely made for shows that have been canceled after a season.
This show is a Space Western which according to Wikipedia 'transposes themes of American Western books and film to a backdrop of futuristic space frontiers.' It's so much more than that though. It's humorous and not in the slapstick way- though there's a few good slapstick scenes throughout the series- but in the Arrested Development-esque, witty, as well as realistic dialogue. Seriously when you watch them, especially Mal (Nathan Fillion) and Inara (Morena Baccarin) talk, they remind you of people that you know, though slightly exaggerated.
I'm curious as to see how many other Firefly fans reside in Metacritic. I'm sure there's a fair number- Firefly has a lot of ans in the nets and it's well deserved.
