my favorite episode is where fry trades hands with the robot devil.
my favorite line in that episode is:
RD: can i have my hands back now? Fry: NO! RD: your not nice!

That earlier post was basically me returning the style of other people's ad-hominem style in a time when I was pissed about something else.
Particularly the 'The fact that you don't like the comedy I like shows you know nothing about comedy' hipster crap. Obviously I didn't mean everything I said in that post.
Futurama wasn't that bad, but it's fans seem to feel awfully good about themselves for liking it.

That's usually the case with rabid fans of shows that were cancelled before their time. I just think it never got a fair shake, at least as far as a consistent time slot that wasn't competing with NFL football games and baseball preemption goes. Unlike American Dad and Family Guy, which are so similar they feel like copies, Futurama was a TOTALLY different show from the Simpsons, and I don't think the casual Simpsons fan got it. But it was a smart, well-crafted show and it deserves the reprieve it's getting from Comedy Central.

I am probably one of the biggest fans of 'The Simpsons'. I own EVERY toy, the comics, obscure merchandise (such as a Homer Head Cookie Jar, Homer Lamp, Mr. Burns Neon Sign, etc), & I taped each episode & went back & rerecorded them, taking out the commercials. However, when I saw the first episode of 'Futurama', I fell in love with it! I was looking forward to new episodes of it more than 'The Simpsons' & was thinking that they would cancel 'The Simpsons' & just continue with this new take on the future. Fry, Leela, & Bender were the best threesome since the Three Stooges. Their adventures were always hilarious. Fry & Bender were a fantastic team, they loved each other but, Bender couldn't help but steal & treat Fry like crap. The show also had so many hidden hints in it, like Nibbler's shadow under the desk in the first show foreshadowing his part in Fry's destiny & then later you see Fry's & Nibbler's shadows foreshadowing Fry going back in time. I love when it's all planned out, there was no cheating whatsoever! My favorite episode is 'Where No Fan Has Gone Before', which is surprising, because I hated 'Star Trek' at the time. The way the actors poked fun at themselves & the show was brilliant! A friend of mine brung over the first six 'Star Trek' movies for me to see & I'm glad I watched them because now I get even more of the jokes in that episode! I couldn't believe it was cancelled after only four seasons! I'm really getting tired of my favorite shows being given the axe!

Good news, everyone! There is a preview for the upcoming "Futurama" direct-to-DVD movie on Disc 2 of "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer" and I'm too excited! They're actually doin' it and it's about frickin' time, too!

I too hear new episodes will be appearing on Comedy Central some time in '08! Partly because of Cartoon Network legal whatnots, partly because of the Family Guy thing, a show coming back due to posthumous popularity. I didn't know so many people hated Futurama! Which I just came from watching! At a time when The Simpsons was starting to lose its depth, Futurama seemed like a more reasonable outlet for the zaniness, since it was set in the future and with robots/aliens/etc it was more acceptable I think. They weren't bridled with even the most remote sense of reality being infringed (even the more outlandish newer Simpsons' have a foot in the real world.) It had a lot of great one-liners I felt better about because it was something new, not an old favorite being bastardized. Favorite episodes have to be "Time Keeps On Slippin'" ("Now everybody in the galaxy will be crackin' wise about our mommas" "I'm just glad my fat, ugly momma ain't alive to see this day.") "Bendin' In The Wind" ("That song doesn't normally last three hours, but we got into a serious 'thing' and I forgot how it ended.") Oh, and "Fear Of A Bot Planet" is kind of what I think of when I hear "The National Anthem" by Radiohead.

In the recent past I used to watch an arse load of late night television (to procrastinate, waste time, etc.), and Futurama re-runs on Adult Swim were almost a nightly feature over this summer. I think they only play a limited selection of episodes because after about a month or two I stopped watching since they were mostly repeats. However, I've seen almost all of the first three seasons. I can understand why Simpsons fans and especially Family Guy oriented fans might not like Futurama as much, it's deadpan comedy isn't as subtle or clever at times - it's more of a "ha-ha that was cute" reaction than knee-jerk funny. I haven't seen much of the later seasons but the few that I have weren't as creative or funny as the earlier episodes (dare I say the cliched Simpsons syndrome?). I don't think that's really the case, but the middle to late seasons (3 to early 4) had some great highlight episodes while some of the early stuff was consistently good. I'd probably give the show a chance if it started up again though, but I don't have as much free time to waste watching late night tv anymore. Favorite Episodes: "Hell is other robots" "Parasites Lost" "Godfellas" --> by far my most favorite "Future stock" "Love and Rocket" -> HAL would be proud. "Bender Should Not Be Allowed on Tv"

I’ve never come across anyone who didn’t find Futurama funny in some way, although I’ve had the discussion of ‘Futurama vs Simpsons’ with people before, and to me, they’re completely different shows. Oh! The Futurama Movie “Benders Big Score” is scheduled to be released on the 27 November 07! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurama:_Bender's_Big_ScoreFavorite eps/quotes in release order are: Fear of a Bot Planet‘Human’ Robot: “I will eat and digest you all with my system of mighty organs! Behold!” A Big Piece of GarbageVideo Narrator: “The repulsive barge circled the oceans for fifty years, but no country would accept it. Not even that really filthy one...you know the one I mean." A Flight to RememberZapp Brannigan: “Kif, I'm feeling the Captain's Itch” Kif: “I'll get the powder, sir” Brannigan, Begin AgainZapp Brannigan: “What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?” War is the H-WordZapp Brannigan: “Now, like all great plans, my strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it” Amazon Woman in the MoodZapp Brannigan: “This whole sector is uncharted” Kif: “It is not uncharted, you lost the chart!” Bendless LoveProfessor Farnsworth: “Perhaps it's your outlook that needs a good bend, a ninety degree bend to a place where happiness is perpendicular to wonderment” Insane in the MainframeProfessor Farnsworth: “Don't worry, Fry, I too once spent a nightmarish time in a robot asylum ... but now it's nearly over” Bender Should Not Be Allowed on TVWoman: “Have you ever been on TV before?” Bender: “Once, when I took those hostages” Calculon: “I saw that, you were good” Bender: “Have you ever tried simply turning off the TV, sitting down with your children and hitting them?” Crimes of the HotVideo Narrator: “You're probably wondering why your ice cream went away. Well Suzie, the culprit isn't foreigners, its global warming!” The Farnsworth ParadoxProfessor Farnsworth: “Now, now. Perfectly symmetrical violence never solved anything” Bender: “I can’t stay mad at what is essentially me, I love me”

I just watched the new Futurama movie Bender’s Big Score last night and it was AWESOME! It was so great to see new Futurama, I don’t want to say anything because I don’t want to spoil the movie for anyone, all I can say is if you’re big Futurama fan like myself, this movie will put a huge smile on your face. I can’t wait to see more!

I usually watch it before I watch Metalocalypse. And even though they're reruns, they're still amazing as they were when the first episodes started running.

Yep, I just watched Bender's Big Score, watched it a second time with the commentary on, and went to bed with a big bending smile on my face. The line about the ' kitten-class attack ships '; that's immortal.

I’ve been waiting to watch the commentary, but I STILL haven’t got my hands on a copy of the DVD yet. I wonder if there was a specific reason why they chose the name Lars Fillmore. I thought it might be taken from something, or that it might even be an anagram for something but so far I haven’t been able to find any info. If it means anything It would be on the commentary.
