Who remembers the good old days of Ren & Stimpy? I use to love this show when I was a kid. I was recently watching the DVD release of seasons 1, 2 and 3.

It’s funny because when I was a kid there were allot of jokes that I didn’t get, but were outrageously delivered at the same time, so still appealing, but now I look back on it and find new things that make the show even more hilarious/sick and twisted.

A favourite episode of mine is the one when Stimpy starts getting heaps of fan mail, and Ren becomes jealous, so Stimpy appoints Ren as President of his fan club to make him feel more important, but ends up back firing when Ren has to read and write back to all the fan mail which is full of children’s insults about Ren.

It’s gold, there’s this twisted scene where Ren goes insane at night, as he begins to ponder the decision to destroy the idol of millions by killing Stimpy.

Lol, I still laugh when I think about it.

I heard Seasons 3-6 have been released on DVD, I’ll be picking that up this week Big Grin

What the hell were the writers of this show on? Seriously, take the quote below, it’s probably a parody of something I’m unaware of, if so please inform me, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was just random craziness.

Ren: Pss, hey Guido, its all so clear to me now. I'm the keeper of the cheese and you're the lemon merchant, you get it? And he knows it. That's why he's gonna kill us. So we got to beat it, ya, before he let's loose the marmosets on us. Don't worry little missy, I'll save you.

And I’m almost tempted to change my tag to this:

Narrator: How can he possibly resist the maddening urge to erradicate history at the mere push of a single button? The beautiful, shiny button? The jolly, candy-like button? Will he hold out, folks? Can he hold out?

I really miss that show.
And you're absolutely right cause, the jokes were there when we were younger and semi funny, but today when we watch and get a better concept of the show, it's absolutely hilarious.

Ren: "My, My Chicken! MY CHICKEN AND MY BEST FRIEND! Golfers in the dark! Did you think I wouldn't notice? The stuffing on your collar at night. The Drippings on the carpet. The gravy on the coach! I want my chicken dinner, and I want it NOW!"

so i was reading this and i decided to go on Joost and watch some episodes.

I always used to watch it when i was younger, but it always scared the sh*t out of me. Now I look back on it, and its absolutly brilliant. It is definetly not suited for kids. to think that the kids today could be watching this instead of Jimmy Neutron is crazy.

But yes, I was watching the rubber nipple episode, very very funny. When mr horse opens and goes crazy....classic.

That rubber nipple episode is gold; I love that bit when the horse freaks out and starts threatening them; me and my little brother were literally watching that just yesterday and cracking up about that scene.

“Alright so I made a mistake. ONE mistake! Can’t a man start over? Do I have to keep on paying!? ARGH!... Maybe I should make another mistake, maybe two more!”

I love the sound affects they use, for example when the Horse goes "ARGH!" his neck stretches out and you can see his neck veins, and they play this tight, rubbery stretching sound, that makes it all feel really intense.

hahaha spot on. The way they animate and use sounds is absolutly genious. I use to never think ren and stimpy was funny until now. definetly shoulda been an adult show, not like that house party crap on spike though. we all know ren and stimpy were gay or whatever, but they didnt have to make it like that

Yeah, I totally agree; the Spike TV episodes are really, really average, and overly sleazy! John Kricfalusi may have been the creator of the characters and original concept, but the Nickelodeon writers and producers had a better grasp on the execution and delivery, IMO. I feel for John (they fired him from the show half way through season 1 from memory), but if what he had in mind for the show then was the same as what he’s done with the show now, it’s not hard to see why; I highly doubt that Nickelodeon wanted naked chicks cleaning them selves with cartoon characters on their channel.

Also, it’s hard to accept anything short of Billy West as the voice actor; John makes Ren sounds way too Mexican, and Stimpy, well it’s just gotta be Billy West.

Happy, happy, joy, joy, just now stumbling onto this thread. I have got to pick up the DVD's. I loved that show when it was on the air, via MuchMusic, until the yanked it off the air because it wasn't music related content (which is laughable now when you look at many of the shows/crap on there now).

I remember Stimpy's box of nose-goblins, and use that phrase to this day. Can't remember what episode that came from.

Also the Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen ("our country reeks of trees"...)
