I love this tv show. It seems that many people on this sight don't though. Maybe its not as popular with adults as the simpsons is. Yes, maybe the show is simplistic but there are so many funny points and jokes in it. Does anyone else like the show? What does everyone think of it? It's very, very popular around my age group but nobody has seemed to mention it much here. If you havent seen it, watch it. It's not much of a plot or character adaption but that doesnt mean its not great.

Actually, the most popular viewers of Family Guy are males from the 18 to 35 age group!
I really like Family Guy. I think that FPM (Funniness per minute) level it beats The Simpsons. But the Simpsons have just been going so long and have so many good characters and stuff, while Family Guy is just a whole big pile of RANDOM!
I was thinking of doing a Family Guy thread after seeing the one about the Simpsons: Raves and Faves but Know-it-all got to it first.
Some of my favorite moments:
DA BOOM episode:
Peter comes up from the basement wearing a chemical safety suit cause he's afraid of Y2K. Upon seeing him, Chris says:
"Oh my God, the government is here! RUN E.T. RUN!!!!
E.T. then comes running across the screen screaming!
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
also:
Chris (talking to Stewie): You want some ice cream Stewie?
Stewie: Well o.k. then, BUT NO SPRINKLES! For every sprinkle I find...I shall kill you!
Also:
In Death is a Bitch:
"Death" comes to the Griffin house and Lowis is making him hot chocolate.
Death: Ugh, what'd you make this hot chocolate with, crap?
Lowis: If you want me to, I'll make it again.
Death: No, No, No. It's not your fault, I just thought that you would make it with milk, NOT CRAP!
Also:
Peter, Peter Caviar eater:
Stewie is talking to his butler:
Stewie: Cut my eggs! The butler cuts the eggs.
Butler: Your eggs are cut sir.
Stewie: Cut my MILK!
Butler: I can't sir, it's liquid.
Stewie: IMBOSILE! Freeze it, then cut it! Question me again and I'll kill you!

Simpsons vs. Family guy is a good debate. I am going to have to go with The Simpons for a couple of reasons.
1. The length of time that The Simpons have been around. 2. Although they are both strange families The Simpsons have more of a bond than Family Guy 3. The sheer number of characters in The Simpsons 4. Homer is a funnier character and has a more dynamic role in his family than Peter does in his. What I mean by funnier character is that both Peter and Homer are fat, alcoholics but Homer is better at the role.
I will say a few things about The Family Guy though.
1. The children in The Family Guy are funnier than Bart (The only funny kid in his family). 2. Stewy rocks!!!

As I said, I think family guy is much more simplistic and is the kind of laughing where you dont have to think. More like a bunch of funny jokes somehow connected. I do believe simpsons is a better overall show, or at least used to be. We have to wait and see if it lasts as long as the simpsons, which I dont find possible but for the moment, in each individual episode, I laugh more when I watch family guy than when I watch the simpsons.

My favorite moments in Family Guy are when Peter has his little memory moments, remembering things that he did in the past. I also love the 'in-jokes' about whether or not the family understands the baby...
It's a funny show, a little more politically incorrect, at times, than the Simpsons (but not as un-PC as South Park)
I wish it had been on longer.

They are actually bringing it back in 2005! After it got cancelled because of a really racist to Jews episode, so many people complained and wanted more. Plus the DVD sales were really high. So, they decided to bring it back! 2005! Ooh yeah, I can't wait.
A couple more funny moments:
Peter: You guys leave this to me. I read a book about this once.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't...NOTHING?
Peter: Oh yeah.
Also:
Peter and Lowis are shopping for a book to teach Stewie to start using the bathroom.
Salesman: Well, we have the very popular "Everybody Poops"... We also have the much less popular "Nobody Poops but you"...
Lowis: Oh, well we're Catholics.
Salesman: Oh! Then you'll want "Your a Naughty Child and that's Concentrated Evil coming out of your Rear!"

I have all the dvd's and i love family guy and can anyone confirm the actull date for it being back? anyway great quotes from it is the xmas episode on season 3 were peter is chasing the old women for the earings for megans presant and he looks at the shoppin mall map and he sees "you are here" he looks up a bit and sees "she is there" lol Great stuff!
louis:you see kids money cant buy you happiness
stewyh i beg to differ (he rings 3 bells and 3 servants come running up)
stewy:you! fetch me the wall street journal , you2 fight to the death
(one guy grabs a vase and smashes it as a weapon the other guy grabs a curtain rail as a giant spear weapon and they start fighting as stewy has an evil grin)
Anyone remember the "Treehouse of Horror" episode where Homer keeps getting cloned? At the end of the episode there is a flyover of all the clones, one of which is Peter Griffen. And that pretty much sums it up.
In the "Running Mates" episode, Peter is at Chris's school and he sees his old teacher Mr. Fargus and comments on how fun a teacher he was. It then flashes back to Mr. Fargus's classroom.
Mr. Fargus: "Hello class. Today we are going to disect.....A CLOWN!!"
He then pulls of a sheet to reveal a dead clown laying on the table. He slices his torso open with a scalpel and peers in.
"Oh, well it's no wonder this clown died...His lungs are filled with.......CANDY!!!!

Family Guy is absolutely hilarious. It's like The Simpsons for people without morals. I much prefer it to the Simpsons, mainly because every new Simpsons episode of the last couple of years was simply mediocre at best. Then again, I'm not sure about Family Guy vs. South Park. The last season of FG wasn't as good as Seasons 1 & 2, while South Park betters itself with every new season. Compare stuff like The Passion of the Jew to older episodes and then marvel at how Matt and Trey get progressively funnier.

Well, nobody has posted in this topic for 6 months, but I figured I'd resurrect since the new season has begun.
So, what do people think of season 4 so far? Personally, I thought the first episode was slightly dissapointing, but still had it's share of great funny moments. I really didn't like the episode 2, and can't recall laughing once. And the most recent episode was definitely my favorite, and could easily compare with the older ones.
What are some other thoughts?

I'm not sure how many of the new episodes I've seen (I think only 2) but the one last night (Peter goes blind) was really funny and filled with weird gags (the chicken, the elves, Meg as blind, deaf and dumb).
I'm not really liking American Dad. It's too much like Family Guy, except with a talking fish instead of a dog, and an alien.

Definitely agree about American Dad. I don't see why these show creators feel the need to take on a new show that never can compare to the first one. (Such as Matt Groening doing Futurama)
I too thought that last nights episode was the best of the season so far. The return of the chicken was great. The Keebler assault on the Rice Krispie guys was hilarious too. "Heres to Snap!"

I think there's a big difference between Family Guy/American Dad and Simpsons/Futurama...the latter were two VERY different shows. Where the first two seem to be carbon copies of each other (but keeping in mind that American Dad was conceived after Family Guy was cancelled beyond hope of renewal), Futurama was its own self-contained unit with little trace of the Simpsons.
For my money, Futurama was greatly underrated, particularly by Simpsons fans, and was probably as good, or even better, that the Simpsons was at the time both were on the air, at least in the later seasons.
These days, I find King of the Hill to be the best written cartoon on TV.

Family Guy is great and i'd personally put it above the Simpsons as i never really liked it. Simpsons has one big advantage over all of the other shows, which is the fact all its minor-characters do actually have a great identity to them that has grown over the years and make them alot more interesting than say Quagmire from Family Guy, who is funny but there is no history to him as such.
