I really can't stand that show, for various reasons-obvious similarities to family guy, annoying and flat characters, stupid episode plots, ...i could go on, but i wanna hear what other people think of it, cuz it must have some good qualities im missing if its still on the air

I think American Dad could be a funny show if they did two things:
1) Killed the alien and the fish. Klaus is just absolutely pointless a character, and Roger..he seems to own the B plot in every episode, and his entire character is based around him being annoying and randomly emotional.
2) Tried to do honest satire instead of just over-the-top propaganda. There are plenty of legitimate ways to attack conservatives, and they make them seem ten times worse then they really are.
In the ratings, Family Guy tends to get around 5.2 and American Dad tends to get around 4.4. 4.4 has got to be high enough to stay on the air..I think it just survives on the spillover audience from Family Guy.

The first episode from this season (the summer/refugee camp episode) was very funny. It was the first episode of the show I've liked, but I guess I'll need to go back and check out some of the previous ones.

American Dad definitely won the night on laughs. Roger and Francine fighting in character in front of the the other couple was hilarious. Way better than the Family Guy episode after it.
These are realmedia files, which have to be played in real player. However, the files look good and take up a fraction of the disc space an .avi file would. Episode one looks too bright, but the rest are fine and that episode kinda sucks anyway.
American Dad is definetely getting better. Also, the first couple episodes of Family Guy seem to be climbing back up to the level they were at pre-cancellation.
I absolutely adore Roger. He's so selfish, it's downright funny. Honestly, I wish he had his own show.
I love American Dad because all the characters grow on me and are likeable. Hailey is hands down my favorite for her liberal attitude and smart mouth. Sigh.., if only Meg (FG) could be more like her. The episodes always seem fresh to me too.
Bobthespirit? May I ask where you get your ratings from? I would love to see a website like that so I can know how my favorite shows are doing. Thanks.
I loved this show when it first came out; season 1 and most of season 2 were awesome. I’d have to say my favorite episodes so far are “Tears of a Clooney”, “Rough Trade” and “The Magnificent Steven”.
Some of Season 2 and 3 have started to annoy me. I really enjoy the antics of Stan when he applies over the top CIA measures to every day life, but does anyone else think the writers are beginning to make him whiney and pathetic? Maybe it’s just me, but episodes like “American Dream Factory” where Stan opens his own teddy-bear factory, or in “Camp Refoogee” when he breaks down and whinges “I don’t know what to do” or even more annoying in “The 42-Year-Old Virgin”, where he reveals that he is a virgin at killing. All these eps have ruined his character for me; however I’ve still enjoyed the subplots in those eps a fair bit.
