Sorry Ishmael, Amsterdam appears in season 3, so you have something to look forward to. I thought maybe if there was interest in this topic then we could start a new thread for it, so we don't spoil anything for anyone.

Hey Glisten, thanks for the info... I'm going to be getting HBO very soon (in time for the Sopranos ), so hopefully I'll be able to catch some re-runs.

Beautiful. So beautiful. After season 3 I had a difficult time watching anything else. It's just incredible how insignificant the Wire makes every other show look.

Well, a friend in Oz has just sent me series 3. Take the phone off the hook. Close the curtains. Hopefully these forums will stay so I can discuss some more about the mighty Wire.

I couldn't stomach all of the stereotypes in Season 1, so I gave the show up very early. I guess I'm the exception to the norm, here.

Well. That's the most literal answer to a genuine debate opening question I have ever received.

Care to expand on the 'stereotype' remark? Any ideas as to when the 4th series is out on DVD in Europe? Sadly it gets very little exposure in Ireland as well. The 4th series(which is the best imo) was on late at about 11 o'clock on our least watched channel TG4. Its on FX in the UK and again at a late time.

I finally picked up Season 1 of this after hearing the near unanimous praise, and while it's okay, I can't say I get the hype. As far as I can tell, the most interesting aspect of it is that the show goes out of it's way to humanize all the players in the drug ring/murder investigation. But, I think if you take away that, you're left with a pretty average police procedural that moves at a snail's pace. Am I missing something?

Haven't seen anything yet beyond the first episode of season 4, but I get the feeling that it's like some of the best HBO shows - that once you get into the characters it pays off in spades. That's how I've seen it perceived, at least.

I've still got about 2 episodes of the first season to get through, and unless they're totally mind blowing, I doubt I'll look into the subsequent seasons. I love serial dramas, but this one moves at such a slow pace, It's tough for me to get hooked. Usually with those types of shows, it's like crack. I can't wait to see what happens next. With The Wire, I don't find myself caring that much.

I recently finished the 4th season - masterful as always and containing as accurate a representation of school life as I have ever had the misfortune/fortune to experience.
