What did you think of Children of Men? Also, I realize that it's been talked up in the forums and by the critics, but on your scale, I couldn't give L'Enfant more than **/*****. It's a great movie if you want to watch people walking around a lot. That's about the best thing I can say about it. I guess I just don't get the Dardenne Brothers. I didn't like Rosetta or Le Fils either.
But I really like your first three.

I haven't seen Children of Men yet. That's another one I need to see. I haven't really been out in the last two months because I had a severe case of pneumonia, I'm feeling better so I'm just starting to watch the movies that I've missed out on. The Dardenne brothers are kind of off-beat, I guess. I liked L'Enfant because it was a film where not much happened but even though not much took place it had a big impact on me as an audience member. I don't know if that sounds weird but I found it slow yet suspenseful. The idea of giving up your child for adoption just to get paid and without the mother knowing even though devious and cruel just seemed so captivating and unbelievable. I don't mean to be a bother but I'd like to see your list, I'm not sure if you've put one up yet but you usually have really good taste in film.

Your explanation is dead-on and personal. I wasn't trying to attack you or your taste because I'm the guy in the minority. Anyway, I don't feel I've seen enough movies to put up a Best 10. Unless you're a critic or get press screening passes (I used to), there's no way an "average", yet "SuperHuman Movie Lover" could ever see ALL the movies until sometime in February.
OK, well, since you asked, this is MY CURRENT Top 10, and I'll change it when necessary.
1. Letters From Iwo Jima 2. Pan's Labyrinth 3. Children of Men 4. United 93 5. The Departed 6. V For Vendetta 7. Little Miss Sunshine 8. Akeelah and the Bee I'm a teacher, after all. 9. Monster House 10. An Inconvenient Truth
Nothing to shout about, but at least, it's MINE!

I think your list is great, Letters From Iwo Jima was such a beautiful film. And I didn't feel as if you were attacking my taste at at all. I still need to see Children of Men, as you already know. I'm surprised to see Monster House and Akeelah and the Bee but have heard both are good. Animated films aren't usually my favorites but I did like one in particular that came out in '06. People will probably think that I'm such a loser for this but I actually enjoyed "The Ant Bully". Yes, it was cheesy, predictable, and sappy but it was just a fun, little movie about fun, little insects. Good List, thanks for posting it.

Hey, you know what? I love Finding Nemo!! No really, I do. I think it is perfect and I always tell everyone that I love it. When people are talking about recent movies from past years and what they like I always shout out that I simply adore that little film about little fishies. It is so special, everything in it is funny and smart and boy, it just knocks my socks off. Anyways you aren't cheesy at all, you just like a movie about ants--its cool. I am probably the loser for always having to mention Finding Nemo in almost every single movie post I have posted.
By the way, when I turned 19 or 20--I really can't remember but it was just a couple of years ago--my family got me a Finding Nemo ice cream cake from Baskins Robbins and has ever since wrapped all of my birthday presents in Finding Nemo wrapping paper! Oh boy...now that is embarrasing.

No offense...but if you put Little Miss Sunshine on your list, you must've only seen like 9 or 10 movies, because it wasn't that good. Unless of course you like a grating, contrived, overlong-sitcom of course.
1) Letters from Iwo Jima 2) The Queen 3) Cache (Hidden) 4) United 93 5) The Departed 6) Talledega Nights 7) Children of Men 8) A Scanner Darkly/Fast Food Nation 9) Inland Empire 10) Borat
My biggest regret this year is not seeing "L'Enfant". The Dardenne brothers are huge inspirations for me and probably my favorite filmmakers alive, but this one slipped by me for some reason.

Whoa, that is a bit much. Like eric said, you did mean some harm with that comment. Sorry that we all don't have great tastes like you, I won't say much but there is no way that your number 6 pick comes close to Little Miss Sunshine.

Yeah, c'mon man, anyone who put "Talledega Nights" on their Top 10 has no right to insult a Best Picture-nominated movie, a movie many people on here loved, I might add.
And last time I checked, "A Scanner Darky" and "Fast Food Nation" weren't two parts of a single movie so that means you have a Top 10 with 11 movies.

I have a few questions for you... How is Little Children? It never came to my town, so I never got a chance to watch it. How was Inland Empire? same as Little Children.
