I was waiting on Mark to post the 'Official' best of thread, but I still haven't seen it . No worries, I propose making this it. And here is my 'Official' top ten of 2006:
1. Cars-The most entertaining and well written film of the year. 2. The Departed-Great film where MS reaches deep into his bag of tricks and pulls out a masterpiece. 3. Borat Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan-My type of humor, my type of movie. Sasha Cohen is a comedy genious. 4. Lucky Number Slevin-Greating casting (How can you not love Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis?) and great acting. 5. V for Vendetta-With no experience of the comic book series, I found the film and Natalie Portman's acting refreshing. 6. A Scanner Darkly-Great use of rotoscoping and a glimpse of what the future holds. Insane film that keeps your eyes glued to the screen. 7. Thank you for smoking-Satire at its finest. 8. Dave Chappelle's Block Party-Dave is brilliant and features countless talented and intelligent hip hop artists. 9. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby-Funny as hell, not particularly intelligent though. 10. Crank-I had to find a way to squeeze this into my top ten. It isn't a 'Good' movie, but I find it entertaining and would recommend it as a great action film.
Runner Ups:
Beerfest- Saw III Snakes on a Plane

Like Mike, I was waiting for the "official" thread. I supposed I can always add this onto any "official" thread.
I will say that there were many above-average films this year...I could easily have surpassed 10 films to list. That being said, there wasn't any "outstanding" films IMHO.

Why in gods name would you put World Trade Center above United 93? World Trade Center was just an hour of two guys laying under concrete in self pity... Try to make you cry at every moment.
my list would be... hmm... well it's hard to compare comedies and dramas... but if i had to put 10 together here they are
1) United 93 2) Borat 3) The Departed 4) Little Miss Sunshine 5) The Prestige 6) Babel 7) Notes on a Scandel 8) Half Nelson 9) The Queen 10) The Last King Of Scottland 11) Hollywoodland 12) Thank you For Smoking 13) Dreamgirls 14) Little Children AND 15!! SNAKES ON A PLANE!

Haven't seen a lot of the oscar-nominated movies and got to see 1 movie in 2006 after waiting all of 2005 for it to be released! Anyways, here's my list with my personal ratings out of 10
10. The Departed 8.0/10 9. Blood Diamond 8.0/10 8. Superman Returns 7.5/10 7. An Incovenient Truth 8.0/10 6. Thank you for Smoking 7.5/10 5. Casino Royale 8.5/10 4. Borat 8.5/10 3. Children of Men 9/10 2. Brick 10/10 1. The Descent /9/10 Like I said, I waited for The Descent all of 2006 until it was finally released here in Oz in November! And boy! did it ever deliver..I can't remember a more horrifying experience in recent time and yes! that includes all the crap like Hills Have Eyes, Hostel, Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc..They might be stylised and maxed to the limit on gore, but The Descent truly delivered on a personal scale for me
