I really hope it turns out that way. Infernal Affairs was great, and with a seemingly can't miss cast & crew, The Departed looks to be the same.

So far the early reviews are strong.

Another film I'm looking forward to is Alejandro Gonzales Innaritu's BABEL, which toplines Brad Pitt & Cate Blanchett. It is the closing night film of the New York Film Festival and opens late in December. Innaritu is a Mexican director who has relocated to Hollywood. His first film, set in Mexico, AMORES PERROS, is one of my all time favorites. I liked, but didn't love his subsequent film, 21 GRAMS, but it is a film well worth seeing.

Some good buzz on a couple of upcoming films from Warner Brothers, which has had a tough '06 at the box office. Buzz is strong on BLACK DIAMOND starring Leo DeCaprio & THE GOOD GERMAN, the latest hookup between star George Clooney & director Steven Soderbergh. Those two have had a few clunkers, including the OCEAN'S 11 remake & sequel & the SOLARIS remake, but worked together to good effect on OUT OF SIGHT.

Unfortunately, Darren Aronofsky's upcoming studio flik, THE FOUNTAIN, is getting mixed reviews. I wasn't crazy about his debut film, PI, but was completely blown away by REQUIEM FOR A DREAM.

Four that are already out:
-The Departed
-Flags of our Fathers
-Little Miss Sunshine
-maybe Half Nelson (Kevin Smith said it was one of the best movies he's seen in the last decade)

I usually try to see at least a couple oscar-nominated movies before the awards and the first two will undoubtedly get some attention (second two not so much)

and of course...

-BORAT

'nuff said

I am seriously interested in seeing Apocalypto. From all I've read and seen, the film sounds thoroughly bizarre. And say whatever you will about him personally, but there are few out there besides Mel Gibosn who could have gotten it made. My wife is out of town the second half of this week, so I think I'm going to check it out(it's not really her kind of movie).

Only a couple of days left, but I'm chomping at the bit to see PAN'S LABRYINTH. This one opened today and received a score of 97 on metacritics.com. I am skeptical that I'll like this one more than THE DEPARTED or the QUEEN, but nevertheless this is one I'm really looking forward to.
