X-men 3. I'll probably get destroyed for this but i liked it. Yeah the story was a bit crap and i was disappointed with the ending but there was still heaps of kick ass mutant fights and some epic bits with Magneto, i mean the Golden Gate bridge scene was fucking ace!!!

There are two chances of LMS receiving Oscar noms: None & none. I didn't care for the film, but the Academy tends to ignore comedies at awards time. "Serious" fare -- for better or worst -- tends to find favor with the Academy.

Meanwhile, I was catching up on that show Peter Bart & Peter Guber have on AMC and they had the co-directors of LMN as guests and they had all sorts of trouble casting the film. Bill Murray turned them down, or, more accurately, didn't respond when they sent him the script. Jim Carrey also declined.

Havn't seen many movies this year.

I did really like Candy but wasn't very inspiring, it was well made but i dont go for those types of movies.

I also saw cache (hidden) which is my favourite, probably because it was so interesting, At the time I was a little stunned but the more i thought about it after the more it intrigued me.

I liked X3 too, it's not gonna be on my best of the year list but I was definitely surprised by it.

5. Little Miss Sunshine/Half Nelson - can't decide
4. The Last King of Scotland - I still have images of Forest Whitacker floating in my subconscious.
3. Brick - I can't believe this film works.
2. United 93 - surprisingly not exploitative
1. The Science of Sleep - a beautiful film that just gets life right.

I also enjoyed Inside Man and Thank You For Smoking

You may want to pencil in Forest Whitaker's name as a Best Actor Oscar candidate. I had my problems with THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND as a film, but there is no doubt that Whitaker's performance in the eponymous title role is Oscar worthy.

I've heard a lot of votes for United 93, I however find it hard to believe that the real events were portrayed accurately and so it really turns me off to that movie.

V for Vendetta was great, I thought it was thought provoking and entertaining. I know both of these movies got slammed by a lot of critics but I thought both Accepted, and Click were great movies. Accepted was good because it was truly a movie a lot of people would like; It wasn't too over the top or explicit, and Click had the good Sandler humor we all like, but it really had some touching scenes and taught a good lesson.

Although United 93 was made with the full cooperation of the survivors' families, and it contains "performances" by many of the actual military personnel and air traffic controllers who worked 9/11, it is a fictional movie, not a documentary. That doesn't take away from its intensity, artistry or skill though; at least for me.

I can understand your "touching scenes" and "good lesson" comments regarding Click that I saw this past week on DVD for a $1.00 Red Box rental. Unfortunately, the movie overall and Adam Sandler, really missed out on an opportunity to produce and perform in what could have been a really, really good movie. The problem I have with these movies and this one in particular is that it couldn't decide on whether it was a comedy or serious drama. Probably one of the most difficult movie genres to make successfully is a comedy-drama. I commend Adam Sandler and the director for incorporating a more dramatic twist in this comedy. While I'm not sold on Adam Sandler, I'm open to his potential, much like Jim Carrey, Bill Murray, Robin Williams, and Tom Hanks who in my mind are some of the most versatile and talented actors today.

Like others, I have not seen too many movies this year, but one of the best for 2006 must be The Departed. Awesome movie- violent, funny, smart, great acting, dramatic, artistic. Great movie, one of my new favorites.

Without a doubt, The Departed is my favorite movie of this year so far! Pulse pounding action, great acting, funny, and just an overall extremely enjoyable thriller. I would recommend seeing it if you haven't yet.

I would give it a 9.5 out of 10

Well I just saw Little Miss Sunshine and I've got to admit I'm a little disapointed. For me all the character development, originality, honesty... it just didn't stand out above the story line. It was like there were two movies that didn't meld. A really interesting napolean dynamite kind of indie comedy, and some silly road trip amazing race lets see how many things can go wrong on the way storyline (sorry for that awkward sentence).

Maybe because of exams I wasn't in enough of a laughing mood to totally enjoy it, but i did find some bits hilarious. I guess I was expecting a kind of emotional pay off at the end and it just got silly and disturbing.

Almost everthing the grandad said was a stitch, when he was giving advice to his grandson = gold!

I hope Toby Jones who plays Truman Capote in INFAMOUS, the "other" Truman Capote bio-pic that has been released in the last year. Philip Seymour Hoffman bagged the Best Actor Nom. last year and it will be interesting if Jones gets a nod this year.

I just finished seeing X-Men 3 on DVD, a second look since it came out (just for something to do). I was surprised to finding myself enjoying the movie as much or even more than the first time. I'm really not sure where to place this movie on my list of favorite. I hadn't really thought about it being any better than most of the movies I've seen this year. But on second thought, I guess I'm going to have to put a little more thought into it.

Ok, I looked at my earlier review of this movie I posted on IMDb back in May. Now I remember and understand my initial reaction. I agree that this movie was fun and entertaining with great action and photography, it is limited in its character depth and the fine performances that I've come to enjoy from my favorite movie list. I think that Harry Lawder hits the overall conceptual value of this movie very well.

1. Sweet Little Sunshine (2006). One of the best little surprises of 2006, this fun, entertaining R-rated family comedy-drama delights, saddens, and enlightens on a trip of a family to send a little girl to a beauty-talent show.

2. United 93 (2006). The first feature length theatrical film to come out concerning 9/11 terrorist attack. A solid and stunning realistic portrayal of events concerning United flight 93 from the plane's occupant's, the FAA, and the military response.

3. The Prestige (2006). Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Scarlett Johanssen, Michael Caine star in this murder-mystery-thriller that is character driven and plenty of twists and tight scriptwriting.

4. The Da Vinci Code (2006). An entertaining and intellectually stimulating movie regarding a religious conspiracy to cover up Jesus and his relationship with Mary of the Magdalene starring Tom Hanks and directed by Ron Howard.

5. Akeelah and The Bee (2006). A fascinating and interesting movie about a young black girl's attempt to win a spelling contest.

6. The Last Kiss (2006). A good portrayal of several relationships and how love and sex can complicate them.

7. The Devil Wears Prada (2006). Meryl Streep brings an edgy, devil of a high fashion industry boss to the screen in this comedy-drama starring Ann Hathaway with a great underplayed role as an assistant.

8. Superman Returns (2006). A luscious, super energized version of the superhero.

9. The Lake House (2006). This movie reunites the Speed cast of Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves in this romantic comedy about two individuals in love but living two years apart of each other, corresponding through a mailbox. Captivating and fun, with a delightful use of time paradox fantasy effects.

10. Basic Instinct 2 (2006). A nice sequel of the original psychological thriller with plenty of twists and turns. Under-rated.

11. Miami Vice (2006). Michael Mann's produces a thoughtful, hard-hitting, gorgeous crime thriller.

12. Hollywoodland (2006). Ben Affleck plays George Reeves (of television's Superman fame) along with Diane Lane as his sophisticated married mistress in this powerfully sensitive look at his death.

What knavery is this farce I behold? Surely it was better than Basic Instinct 2, Miami Vice, or Superman Returns.

Well, the 5th of November (AKA my birthday) is coming up, so let's hope zombie Guy Fawkes doesn't return from the grave and blow up your computer. Cool

Another name who might get a Best Actor nom is Ed Harris for his portrayal of Luddy van Beethoven in BEETHOVEN'S COPYIST.

I know we still have to get through the holiday movie season, but I think we have to ponder whether or not Borat will receive and award nominations, and if so, what kind? Could it seriously be nominated for best picture? Or is it a documentary? It is billed as a mockumentary, but I think that is a little misleading. Although Cohen's character is made-up, the situations he is in are real. This is an important distinction in comparison to, say, the Christopher Guest films where mockumentary is referring to the style in which they are shot. It is a film that deserves serious consideration. While it is (literally) painfully funny, there is a very serious undercurrent that runs through it. Anyone else have any ideas?
