V for Vendetta - My new best of '06. Whether or not you think you're going to like it or not, see it so you'll have an opinion on it.

V for Vendetta - I agree with LordSmoog... I loved it. The only caveat; I haven't seen anything this year aside from last year's New World, which I liked very, very much ( but I have a soft spot for Mr. Malick.)

The New World was my favorite film from last year - and I admittedly did see a lot of stuff. Whether you have a soft spot for Malick or not, that movie is simply extraordinary.

This year, I haven't been able to get out very much, though I would have to say of the movies I've seen, none has been more rewarding than Dave Chapelle's Block Party.

Was the new world not this year? Or has our whole system been based around when the academy awards are...

The New World was originally in limited release last year in N.Y. and L.A., so it's a 2005 film. I didn't see it until it went into wider release this year. You can discuss it wherever you want, but yes, the year of Academy eligibility counts, at least for American releases.

2005, 2006... I don't really care. All I know is I saw it 3 times in the theater within the span of two weeks and I couldn't wait to see it 3 more times.

I saw the New World once, and I believe the version I saw was the edited (shortened) version. Has anyone seen both versions but most importantly what I would like to know is which of the other 3 Malick flicks you like the most? Maybe thats a new thread......

Days of Heaven and Badlands are both great. The attraction of Thin Red Line escapes me altogether. I think I saw the long version of The New World. It is okay but just doesn't have the emotion of Badlands or Days of Heaven. Malick was young when he did those first two films and seemed to be understanding the young characters from the inside. He is older now. In The New World he seems to be understanding his young characters from the outside. His visual sense is still strong, but the movie lacks the power of his earlier films.

V for Vendetta for me. It was much better than I thought it was going to be! I would recommend seeing it without a doubt.

I haven't seen New World yet, but I've seen his other 3, and I liked Thin Red Line the best. There's little plot, just a lot of loosely connected scenes with lots of stunning cinematography and haunting music. I think of it as a poem in film form--lots of impressionistic details that add up to something as a whole. What that something is is highly debatable...a fair number of people are bored to death by the movie. But a fair number are also enchanted with it. Personally, when it's done it leaves me with the same feeling as a good poem: I may only vaguely know what it was "about", but I'm somehow moved by it nonetheless.

United 93, for me its tied with V for Vendetta, at least for now

United 93- Powerful movie that should be seen at some time! Would recommend when oneself is ready to see this very true telling of 9/11!

V for Vendetta- Very thought provoking movie that made you think but still entertained with great action fun!

Mission Impossible III- Pure Fun and Adrenaline in this high energy movie. Much better than the other movies in the series, plus it includes the great Phillip Seymore Hoffman (Best Actor, Copote). Would recommend anyone who wants to see a fun action movie with good twists!

I thought V was a notch above average...not bad, but far from the "best" anything.

At this point my vote goes to United 93 for sure, though from what I've heard that may change after I see Cache.

"V For Vendetta" was solid. "Thank You For Smoking" was great. So far, that's my favorite movie. I didn't care to much for M:I:3, except of course for Phillip Seymour Hoffman's performance.

"V for Vendetta" was agreat movie for me. Maybe right movie right time.

"United 93" Painfully compelling. A respectful retelling of September 11. It will force you to relive the event from your perspective in relation to the perspective of others, and that hurts. That is the purpose of history but we forget this, since we have been desensitized to the past through public education.
