Sea Change is one of those albums that I will always hate: It's boring, it's bland and it's Beck at his worst.

It's funny how opinions can be SO different...for me, Sea Change is the only Beck record I can really listen to from start to finish, probably for the same reasons you hate it. Truly a "to each their own..."

But I liked your Top 10 list, PaloAlto45. Nice to see the Kings of Convenience getting some big love...

I was kinda afraid to say this, but now that PaloAlto has, I will as well: I hate Sea Change. It has not a single whit of the creativity and fun that permeates his other albums.

It's certainly not "fun" and I'm not sure how creative it is (unless you factor in the reinventing yourself part of the equation) but I like it because it's a really good slow-core alt-country record and it's representative of an artist following his muse, and a mood, to record.

I wonder if those who don't like Sea Change would like it more if it weren't a Beck record? It was, after all, a SEA CHANGE from his normal style of music.

Ah, pE, how your clever wordplay makes me chuckle.

I was thinking about what you said, and I think you might actually be right. I've never really been a fan of Beck's folky stuff (never liked 'Mutations' either), so I guess I was just disappointed to see that he was wasting his talent on folky stuff.

This would seem to be the only topic in the Alternative forum that people still care about. Interesting.
