It's funny how opinions can be SO different...for me, Sea Change is the only Beck record I can really listen to from start to finish, probably for the same reasons you hate it. Truly a "to each their own..." But I liked your Top 10 list, PaloAlto45. Nice to see the Kings of Convenience getting some big love...

It's certainly not "fun" and I'm not sure how creative it is (unless you factor in the reinventing yourself part of the equation) but I like it because it's a really good slow-core alt-country record and it's representative of an artist following his muse, and a mood, to record. I wonder if those who don't like Sea Change would like it more if it weren't a Beck record? It was, after all, a SEA CHANGE from his normal style of music.
