I am by no means a muse fan, but I believe radiohead is probably the most overrated band on the planet. Just because most of their songs revolve around minor half-steps, everybody thinks it is brilliant and they have never heard it before. Kid A was definitely their most creative album, but I stopped listening to them a long time ago when I realized I wanted to listen to music for entertainment, not to drown in sorrow and creepiness.

First off i love both bands (Radiohead a little more though), and i have to say they bear similarities. I mean obviously Matthew Bellamy's voice, and its clear that The Bends was a huge inspiration to Muse, as they even took the producer of the album. While Muse has used elements of metal in their music they also borrow a lot of their chord progressions and loud crunching guitars from Radiohead. I mean a simplified version of Airbag would fit right into the next Muse album. Take a song like Map of The Problematique, that song was HUGELY inspired by Radiohead. All in all, Muse is very good, but Radiohead is so much better in every way. Thom's vocals are better than Belamy's, Greenwood is a much more creative guitarist than Belamy, and as much as i like Dominic Howard, Phil Selway is a brilliant drummer. Not to mention much deeper songwriting on Radiohead's side.
I think i have accomplished in saying absolutely nothing important in this post.

i've always hated the radiohead/muse comparisons, i don't hear anything similar. radiohead are like artsy rock/electric/i-have-no-clue-how-to-describe-it-its-so-good, and muse are a hard, electric, arena rock band that i do enjoy. they're much more like Queen then radiohead. but then again i've only heard the Supermassive Black Hole album, so maybe their earlier stuff is more radiohead-esque
Muse do sound like a 21st century Queen on Black Holes & Revelations, but their previous albums are more 'proggy'. Muse make music with the intent to entertain, but they have an alarming superficiality. Admittedly, they have carved out a niche for themselves, whereby the riff-hungry masses have genuflected to their self-proclaimed guitar god, Matt 'Bombast' Bellamy. Radiohead, meanwhile, create challenging and rewarding music.

Firstly im sick of most saying that Radiohead are much better because they changed and took risks. So did Muse, listen to showbiz then black holes and revelations, not a single song sounds the same.
Just because a couple of Muse songs sound like radiohead doesnt mean they "ripped off" their sound either. Maybe some of you should realise that Radiohead isnt the only band who writes music in this world, others have similar Music tastes and influences.
I also disagree with the people who say one band is better than the other. This is not what the thread is about if you want to say who's better tell someone who actually cares?
Muse + Radiohead for life. Stop comparing, and admire them, theres no similarity

Uh... you seem to be missing the entire point of the thread... or at least what the thread has evolved into.
I like Muse just fine... but Radiohead is obviously in a league of their own (at least compared to their contemporaries). It's not not even close. I shouldn't even have to explain why.
