I'm a newcomer to Wilco's music...YHF pretty much blew me away, it's a masterpiece...
'Reservations' may be perceived as weak by some, but I think it's a damn-near perfect love song. I'm not a fan of love songs, but it's so earnest and hearfelt...and at first I wondered why it had so long to go when Tweedy stops singing, but the next time I listened, I realised...in terms of real life, you don't just proclaim your love, and that's it...the continuation is like an afterthought, the atmosphere, the state of mind, the feelings after such a proclaimation.

I think it would be interesting to see some of you guys come up with Wilco "Best Of" compilations, like in the Radiohead thread. I think that Wilco has pretty much been the American equivalent to Radiohead over the past 12 years or so, and I'm interested in seeing how their best tracks stack up against each other. I picked 16 for Radiohead, so I'll do the same for Wilco.
1. I am Trying to Break Your Heart 2. She's a Jar 3. Outtasight (Outta Mind) 4. War on War 5. Hummingbird 6. Ashes of American Flags 7. Heavy Metal Drummer 8. California Stars 9. Via Chicago 10. Theologians 11. I Must be High 12. Jesus, etc. 13. Shot in the Arm 14. At Least That's What You Said 15. Say You Miss Me 16. Sunken Treasure

I am relatively new to Wilco, only hearing of them about 3 years ago. I've still only heard Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and A Ghost Is Born. Unlike a lot of you, though, I'm a little bored by Summerteeth. It's not a bad album at all, but I absolutely love the last two albums, and I think it doesn't compare well. Also, someone mentioned earlier that one could claim Jay Farrar was the genius in Uncle Tupelo. I think Son Volt has pretty much blown that theory out of the water. Son Volt is only slightly better than mediocre, and I really like alt. country/americana.

You can already buy a "Best of Wilco" album Superabound. They released it a couple years ago. It's called "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot". ;-P

I'd have to play all the albums I have of theirs actually paying attention to the song titles to make my best of list, but two non-YHF that would definetely show up are 'Monday' and 'Outtasite'.
I know. I was half joking. I do think YHF is best served being listened to in it's entirety though.

..maybe i've been listeling to something differente that you guys during the past years. i just don't see how any wilco album could possibly be compared to YHF. AGIB would come in, late, second place. it's understood that AGIB still tops my favourite-album-of-the-year ranking....

That sounds like a very good question, and my answer is yes. I don't really want to rehash everything else which has been posted here, but Wilco has evolved and does have a pre-Wilco recorded past too, so that could be a major influence.

A Ghost Is Born is my favorite. I'm surprised at how many people dislike it. Most CD players have a skip button when that one song goes on too long, and for the life of me AGIB is Beatley in the best way possible.

Just got the live album, and dang it's gooood! Everything sounds a little more spacious and a little more ragged. I'm going to play this one to death.

The live album is OUTSTANDING - - I'll be playing it nonstop for weeks, I guarantee it. And for the record, a ghost is born is my favorite album of theirs (and yes, I know I'm in the minority on this one).

Welcome aboard. It's always nice to see some more Wilco fans around, I'm a huge fan as well. You really need to buy YHF, that's far and away their best album.
