...does not deserve the positive praise it has received in my opinion. The band is a one-trick pony that exhausts itself after the first few tracks. And if you have Dean Fertita from QOSTA on the guitar, maybe you should LET HIM PLAY. To me it just seems like Jack White is the most over hyped figure in Rock and Roll. The only thing that he was involved in that I enjoyed was "Broken Boy Soldiers". The new Raconteurs disc was shitty, and Meg White can't drum. Ahhhh....I apologize for the rant, but I'm just sick of everybody jerking off to whatever Jack White does.

I enjoy jerking off to Jack White.

And I think the Dead Weather are awesome, certainly better than the Raconteurs in my opinion.

And, what praise are you talking about? The album has only received barely passable good reviews; nothing spectacular or anything.

Anyways, this is an album of excellent blues-rock tracks that slowly sneak up on you and grab you by the balls to take you for an incredible ride through mythologies and dark alley-ways that most rock artists wouldn't dare consider going down. I admire White for giving the reigns to some other members; Allison Mosshart really shines through in this setting, and Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence are doing some really great stuff as well. Jack White's drumming isn't exactly special, but his vocals compliment Mosshart's really well. The production is also pretty solid.

"Treat Me Like Your Mother" will be a shoo-in for one of the best tracks of the year, and certainly one of the best rock songs of the year hands-down. The album is already in my top 10 for the year, and I think its a safe bet to assume that the album will make my top 20 if not stay in my top 10.

Also, Allison Mosshart is sex, personified.

I like Jack White's music as much as the next guy but with the exception of Van Lear Rose, other than the music he does on The White Stripes, everything else just doesn't resonate well with me. I really like The Kills too so I was hoping for great things.

One of the problems I have with it is that the songwriting is done by all four musicians. White should be playing lead guitar and he should be writing 80% of the music. Not only is he one of the best guitarists we currently have but all of his influences make him a remarkable songwriter.

While I agree, I wanted to point out that one of the lesser-tracks on the album (in my eyes) was entirely written by White ("Cut Like A Buffalo").

But, yeah, White should be playing some mean guitar and taking over more songwriting duties.

I guess I don't see this as a "Jack White" album like his other stuff; this seems far more to me to be an "Allison Mosshart" album. At least, she is what seems to be putting on the performance, with great artistic display and really awesome vocals.

Nonetheless, I see why it doesn't appeal to some. I'm not making any claims on it's greatness and I don't think it's going to get as good a response here as other Jack White albums would, but I am enthusiastic about it and it has resonated well with me.

I don't think Mr White should be doing anything other than what he damn well pleases! Razzer

Seriously though, as long as he remains involved in projects as gloriously unhinged as evidenced by the songs on Horehound, I don't care if he only plays the triangle. I am sure it all keeps him fresh'n'deranged for projects he may control more completely.

Just picked up a pair of tickets to see these guys at the end of August at the Glass House in Pomona. Should be an excellent show, minus the fact that it'll likely have a very predictable set...maybe a few covers or re-hashings of White Stripes or Raconteurs' material? That would be pretty sweet. I saw a video on youtube of Mosshart taking over vocal duties with the Raconteurs for "Steady As She Goes," which was pretty awesome.

Lucky bastard - we down under will be lucky to see these guys. Usually it's just the 'Stripes' around festival time.

Hey did you know the raconteurs don't exist down under - it's the "Saboteurs" instead - some names dispute, not that I've heard of any Aussie raconteurs...playing music that is!

Yes, I have actually heard that! In fact, I bought a "Saboteurs" vinyl record from Amoeba for a decent price about a year ago, because I loved the novelty of owning an Australian vinyl record (and I love the music, of course).

Also, the only time I have ever had tickets to see the Stripes, Meg White decided to get sick and cancel the last two or so weeks of their tour, so I missed out and have still yet to see them. And considering how much I love the White Stripes, that was a supreme disappointment. Hopefully the Dead Weather rock though - I've seen some of their television appearances, and Allison Mosshart is simply stunning on stage. This will be the third time I've seen her perform, actually, since I saw The Kills open for the Raconteurs once and I saw The Kills play at Coachella this year. I'll be sure to check back in after the show to let everybody know how it was!

Are you kidding? That's what I PLAN on doing. Big Grin

I specifically bought tickets to a show that is further away (@ the Glass House in Pomona, about 70 miles from my house) so that I could plan on getting there early to get in the front (there's no seating at that venue). It was either that or buy tickets to the show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles (about 40 miles from my house), which only had mezzanine seating available (general admission sold out quickly).

I actually just heard The Dead Weather for the first time today, and I thought I was listening to a fucking Audioslave song. This shit is horrible. I dig some White Stripes, especially their early work, but this...no.

Chris Cornell obviously sings like a girl, so I can see the comparison.

Hmmm...the fractured, deeply fried country blues rock of Dead Weather...the relentlessly unimaginative pop-metal of Audioslave...

Well, you're more creative than me Crob in getting this comparison! Confused

Yeah, my comparison was overwrought with a lot of ironic, condescending tone.

I mean, here we all are, being relatively civil, and PJ comes in here, swearing up and down and comparing the Dead Weather to Audioslave - which, as you've pointed out, sound nothing alike!

Just seemed immature, and certainly didn't contribute anything to the discussion.

I didn't think you were serious and it made me laugh - I just used it to emphasis how foolish I thought the comparison was.

Still, if PK is using Audioslave as a general reference point for indicating that something is most displeasing to the ears rather than actually sounding like Audioslave, then that makes perfect sense - not in relation to Dead Weather in my case, but in other cases, why not?

For eg, one could say: "I have just heard the latest release from xxxx and unfortunately they've done an Audioslave", meaning in shorthand that "they have lost all edge and subtlety and turned out a humourlessly spinal tap version of their chosen field of music." Big Grin

Needless to say, the Dead Weather show was one of the greatest straight-up rock shows I have ever seen. Up there with My Morning Jacket and The Hold Steady.

This cemented for me how much better the Dead Weather are than the Raconteurs; after seeing both in the live setting, I was only ever mildly thrilled by the Raconteurs, but the Dead Weather are a whole different beast, and complete and fully formed band. The way that Allison and Jack both command your attention creates an undeniable tension - for the first time in Jack White's career, he has somebody on stage with him that commands (dare I say it?) a bigger presence than he does. Dean Fertita is also an exceptionally gifted musician, and LJ is entertaining as the bassist, and thank god he has more dynamic stuff to contribute to this band than with the Raconteurs.

Also, it's official: Allison Mosshart is the earthly personification of sexual desire.

I agree with every damn thing you just said.
Saw them live last week. Intense.

Also, I have a sexual desire for both Allison AND Jack.
