Just wondered if we put up our (UK) 10 best bands against yours in a series of head to heads who would win out? For instance: Radiohead V's Nirvana Muse V's Pearl Jam etc......
I think it would be closer then the thrashing we gave you guys at golf

ok it could be you get 10 current bands and two wild cards - so you get to keep Nirvana.
I love Muse - they sounded a bit like Radiohead in OK Computer Mode but now they are miles apart in my opinion. Even if they were similar there is room for more then one band in this sector. I don't think I have heard Wilco - will go and check them out.
Feel free to add bands to wither side.

WHA?!? how have you not heard of this band? That's crazy. In a Ryder Cup style battle, it would be Wilco paired up against Radiohead, not Green Day or something.
It's a worthy topic, but which direction are we going? Commercial success or critical success? There's a huge difference between the two.
On the commercial side we can put Green Day vs. Oasis. On the critical side maybe My Morning Jacket vs. Bloc Party.
I think there need to be a few more guidelines in place.

Tremendous idea for a forum. It reminds me of one of my boldest quotes ever, "Rock and roll was invented in America, but it was perfected in the UK." Take that with a grain of salt, please.
Anyway, I would like to see some more guidlines for this as well. Active bands or bands from 1991-current. Are we comparing bands at their peak, or in their current state? Since I believe Oasis and Blur are both past their prime, they wouldn't stack up in their current state, but the 1994-95 version of both would do very well.
I would say at their peak, simply because Blur and Oasis are pretty close to non-entities at this point, as opposed to when the British music world would orbit around them.
Wilco's a good choice for the US against Radiohead. I'll try to think of more American bands...

Maybe Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson can be the two team captains.
Since they've both only come out with two albums, what about Shins vs. Franz?
Is this going to be like the golf rider cup where it is USA (not North America) vs. Europe? That would suck because if you add some Canadian content, it would be a bitch-slap of great proportions.

For me If I was in charge of the pairings Muse would would go up against your best player - live there is no one who could live with them (In my very biased and personal opinion).
As for guidlines - I would say the band has to be in there prime or up and coming (if they are good enough) + two wildcard bands from any point in History.
Qualification must be on musical ability, great albums and most importantly they must kick ass live (after all music wasn't invented for the Ipod).

Live, you can't beat Wilco. They've got songs galore, and a six peice band that are dripping with talent. I don't know if there's a better guitarist than Nels Cline and Glenn Kotche is an incredible percussionist.
My Morning Jacket put on a stellar balls-to-the-wall live show.
I haven't seen Spoon live but I've heard they're tight like a mans anus (sorry, I'm still living in Borat world).
God, Andrew Bird could take on a whole band and still blow them away with more instrumentation and skill.

This poll/thread already exists here. But I like the golf tie-in.
Usually Franz gets compared to The Strokes. In this case, being the fanboy I am, I choose Franz.
How about the Presidents Cup set-up? USA vs. The world less Europe?
