Not so much passion here on MC re this special, flawed but immensely passionate work of heavy art - still, I guess people are missing out!
While not as concise and tightly passionate as their previous masterpiece "Fear of a Blank Planet", the central 55 min song suite of this album is still worth checking out for any serious music fan who is willing to admit that Pink Floyd's "Animals" had an alarming hostile passionate potential but that needed some quality existential editing - all quibbles aside this latest effort by Porcupine Tree demands some serious geeky praise! It's rare that such a intuitively thematically structured 55 min first side of a powerful exploration of trauma is followed by such a wonderful;y creative second side of even more powerful but maturely restrained "out takes" that any other band would base on antire album or career around!
