So, my dad actually found Rid of Me and To Bring you my Love, nobody in our family liked them but they saved them because they figured I would. So, I just got those albums today, I've listened to Rid of Me a few times and I really like it.

I voted for Stories cuz that's the one that really got me into PJ and as it's been said earlier i think, it's her most accessible (a poppier, polished sound). But my favorite PJ song has to be "The Dancer" off TBYML.
As for White Chalk, at first i was extremely disappointed because i wasn't expecting that sound at all, i was hoping for some heavy guitars & co. so it took me a while to accept this new one but now i realize how intense it is. i simply have to listen to it in the correct conditions.

she came to paris this past month but i was away all month so i missed her Frowner

Rid of Me is till my favourite, though I love Dry almost as much. Havn't Heard TBYML or Is This Desire? though. Hmmm, if I had to pick a favourite off White Chalk I'd say 'The Mountain', it's beautiful. As an album I find WC very concise and constantly engaging but it seems slightly empty and soulless to me.

PJ Harvey is on my "artists to explore" list. Well, I've heard parts of White Chalk, and loved the song as well, but I guess from reading these posts White Chalk is radically different than her older albums. Which album should I start out with?

the most accessible would probably be Stories from the Sea, Stories from the City but the essence of PJ Harvey probably resides more in Rid of Me or To Bring You My Love

Rid of Me is probably her "definitive" album, I guess, and I'd say her best album. But Stories and To Bring you My Love are also two personal favorites of mine.

Plus, Is This Desire? may not be as cohesive, but "The River" and "The Garden" are two of the best songs she has ever written.

I voted for Rid of me,my favorite, but Stories from.. is a nice contrast to that Rid of me garage sound.so different yet my second favorite.

First one to hear was To bring you my love and loved every song but hated the way it was produced.completely sterile. In fact, now i think that killed the joy on most listeners.
