Can't believe nobody has mentioned this band yet on these boards. Surly the most talented and promising new band around right now and "Funeral" is one of the most mature debut albums ever; Original and beautifull music with lyrics to match. Mark my words - in 10 years time this band will be seen as one of the all time greats.

Are you serious? Have you looked? A keyword search (under the find button) brought up 26 pages of posts about the Arcade Fire. Along with Sufjan Stevens and Modest Mouse, they've got to be one of the most talked about bands in these forums.

I’ll be Ben Gazzara, you’ll be Gena Rowlands.

Wouldn't they qualify as indie rock?

In any case, I think they are amazing, but I'm hoping they can follow up Funeral with something as good. I'd hate for them to burn out after just one great record...

I LOVE Arcade Fire. They are amazing song writers, very creative, not the best singers, but they for sure deliver something totally different.

They're far to creative and quirky to be labelled "indie rock" (or any other genre for that matter). Also, i'm glad there are other threads about them. I'm happy to be proved wrong in this case. Good.

While there are many indie bands I flat out adore (Pavement, The Shins, Built To Spill, etc.), I'm sorry to say Arcade Fire is one of them that just won't catch on for me. Similar to Modest Mouse (liked some of "Good News," can't even listen to most of their other albums) or Belle and Sebastian. As much as I read that they're fantastic, it just won't sink in. Actually, it's been a long time since I listened to "Funeral"...I'll give it another shot soon.

"Why"...can you expand on that? Do you mean "why" to my entire post Eeker or "why" as in why listen to them again if I don't really like them?

One of. Wink

New Arcade Fire in 2007 is the rumor... tempted to freeze myself for six months. Hopefully I won't wake up 500 years in the future.

Haha, FunkyMonk caught me off gaurd w/ the Wyld Stallions comment. I'm also surprised noone said anything about him calling the Arcade Fire a "new band"... 2 years after their debut (and they had a s/t ep before that)!

But I, too, are looking forward to their sophomore album. I'm hoping they can put a few before burning out... I still have Funeral on a pretty heavy roto.
