Paul Hester, longtime drummer for Crowded House, was found dead on Saturday, March 26. He was a very good drummer and a nice man on the few occasions I met him. I am saddened by the loss.
Wow....too young, and another suicide in the music industry. The threesome of Crowded House made some of the best pop albums in the late eighties and nineties. Sad.

When my wife and I saw Crowded House in San Francisco, Hester was the guy who really kept the show going. He'd tell stories, make cracks at the other guys, stand up on his seat and smash his sticks together. The music was great, but he turned the whole show into musical comedy. R.I.P.

Just to pass on my great sorrow for the loss of Paul Hesner. You guys (Crowded House) did something for me musically, which I am now in a career doing. Woodface was the one, dont know why, as I was music daft anyway, but was just tinkering with the bass. Something in that album made me get of my arse and proceed with it. Paul Hesner gave me a zest just by watching him.Talk about performer? I feel sad now, writing this, but thank you very much for giving me the drive to do what I do.

I remember him doing the same thing a a concert I went to. I was probably only about ten years old, but being a drummer myself, I remember paying particular attention. I remember thinking it strange the drummer was talking so much!

Hester was also a fantastic drummer. He wasn't that technically agile really, but his beat was one of the most solid I've heard. He had that indefinable "it" factor that just made his drumming *feel* good, much like Ringo's.
Especially live..I remember being dragged to see Crowded House when I was about 10, at the Womad festival, and being shocked by the force and assertiveness of the band, especially Paul's drumming. Once they started playing people just poured into the ampitheatre, unable to keep away.
Just thought I'd pitch in as I've recently gotten back into Crowded House for the first time in a few years.
