I have at least ten of their albums (I don't have the last two.) My wife loves them as much as I, and we saw them live about 16 years ago (just the two Johns by themselves.) I probably should have bought those last two since they always make enjoyable albums. Yes, they're funny, but they ROCK!

That's all I know about them. That said, they seem pretty good.

I don't own many TMBG albums, but I always enjoy their music.

They also always turn out a GREAT live show...

PEOPLE! PEOPLE! PEOPLE!

APES! APES! APES!

The two-disc best-of is a great collection...

I visit homestarrunner pretty often, CompmanJX3, but had missed that video until now. Thanks for the link!

I'm not quite going to be one of those boring old farts who goes on about how much better a band was way back when, but I haven't really followed TMBG closely since John Henry. I love everything through Flood, though.

Their live shows are great, pE. In the early 90s, they were big in St. Louis, and by big, I mean HUGE. If memory serves, they went so far as to headline Riverport, which was pretty surprising at the time. My favorite TMBG show, though, was in the original Cicero's Basement. I'm sure sombody's bored you with the stories, but it was in the space that is now Blueberry Hill's Duck Room. It was a dark, dank, dive and the night I'm thinking of, we must have been about a hundred bodies over fire code. It was a great show, but not one for people with issues over personal space.

Their output has been iffy since Apollo 18 (Speaking of which, I nominate "I Palindrome I" as greatest song ever), but those four albums are brilliant. But their work since then hasn't been entirely without merit. "Experimental Film" is a good tune, for exmaple. And sadly, I have not seem them live, but next time they come to my area, it's gonna happen.

''Mink Car'' sucked. Some peaple like it, but most of them havent heared enough TMBG. ''Bangs'' is awsome but thats the ONLY good one on the entire album. Both ''Hovering Sombrero'' and ''My Man'' get in the right direction but are ruined on some parts, resulting not savin this album. ''Wicked Little Critta'' is just terrible and I cant accept its acually from TMBG! ''Another First Kiss'' and ''Hopeless Bleak Despair'' are also examples of way too uninteresting songs that arent that bad at first glance. Sure, 1 or 2 listens are nice, but then these songs wont enyoy you anymore. With some embarrising songs as ''Undercover for the man'', ''Mink Car'', ''Drink!'' and ''Man, its so loud in here'' the album finishes the piece of crap it is.

I respect TMBG for being original, but I find all their albums to be a bit spotty, even "Flood", which is generally considered to be their best. Granted, they've got some excellent songs (Ana Ng, Don't Let's Start, Birdhouse in your Soul), but you really have to weed through the crap to find them.

I’ll be Ben Gazzara, you’ll be Gena Rowlands.

I disagree, but only slightly. I find their first two records, (TMBG, Lincoln) to be quite strong throughout, and I would recommend them over Flood any day. I just listened to them for the first time in a long time earlier in the week, and I was surprised at how good they still sound. Yes, there are some moments on both that are a liitle absurd, but that's obviously part of the draw of TMBG.

Both ''Lincoln'' and ''Flood'' where exelent. They where filled with quick and energytic songs and had most of what I look in a song. The lyrics may sound bizarre but if you understand the interprations they can be even sometimes brillijant. Most of their albums where like this exept the shitty ''Mink Car'' album.

I like TMBG, I just don't love 'em. I own Lincoln, Flood, and John Henry, all of which have some great stuff, but a lot of it wears pretty thin with me after awhile. "Particle Man" is catchy and funny the first time you hear it, but now it just seems stupid. I'd put TMBG in the same category as the Dead Milkmen...smart funny songs, some which work, some which don't.

I would second the claim that both Lincoln and the self-titled record are as good as Flood. TMBG are one of those bands whose records, which are often spotty, hold a gem or two each. The recent best-of indicates that there are excellent songs on even the more recent records that I've not paid attention to.

No one has mentioned it, but Factory Showroom was a great album. Very funny songs and catchy as well. And you gotta love the hidden track BEFORE the first song! Crazy stuff!

Yea, well you see this one? This was my dream, my wish....and it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back, I'm taking them all back.

I think they did the song for the My World Mastercard tv commercial "The candy shop". I contacted them, but it was a silly "form" email. They won't give me any info on it. What do you think??

This band is also the band that did the song for Malcolm in the Middle. A show I liked but whats up with this band doing all these commercial songs and TV show songs, sounds to me like a band that is trying to get as much money as they can off anything. They should try making a really good CD so people would buy it, thats a good way of making money.
