I've been listening to this most of this evening. "Abattoir Blues" is a pretty kick-ass reaction to our current world. "The Lyre of Orpheus" is equally enthralling, if not quite so pessimistic, about our reaching the end of OUR world's rope. They both add up to significant reflections for any serious music lover/human being. I will try to come back to discuss individual songs, at least if my wet doggy Kiki doesn't say no. I really worry about my 16 1/2 year old cat Velvet when it pours in Cal (it's not SUPPOSED to do that..ha..ha.)

Well, just saw this one now. 6 posts in 2 years ain't much of a return for an artist/album of this quality, and one of them is about a cat... Seeing as this is a Nick Cave thread, I hope it is/was a jet black cat! The whole album is very impressive, but it's The Lyre... that I've returned to more as time has gone by. I've seen Nick Cave 4 times in 4 European locations, and I'd be willing to bet that anyone who's seen him has gone back for more. Just in a closing attempt to drag this thing up to date, I think the soundtrack he did with Warren Ellis for his own film The Proposition is wonderful. Lean, meditative, and melancholy. Check out The Rider Song...
