That being said the song currently has me in awe and is probably the best song I've heard this year. Wow.

Does his older stuff sound like this? Because if it does I have some digging to do.

I definately think Chemtrails sounds quite a bit like some of the spacier stuff on The Information. Check out songs like "Dark Star" or "Soldier Jane".

Solid album. 'Soul of a Man' has more edgier guitars than I've ever heard on a Beck song.

Good review song-by-song here:

My favorite song on the album is probably 'Youthless', the bass line just rocks.

I like the new album. It will probably be a top 15 album for me. But . . . I miss the old Beck.

Is it just me, or has Beck forgotten how to make fun music? Odelay, Midnight Vultures, and Mutations were very fun albums. They were a riot. But, ever since Sea Change, it doesn't seem like Beck is having fun with his music anymore. (Don't get me wrong. I love Sea Change. It's just so depressing, it makes me want to drive my car off the nearest cliff).

Guerro had its moments. I only listened to The Information three times. I just couldn't get into it. And, although I enjoy Modern Guilt, it's kind of a downer too.

I guess Sea Change really was a sea change for Beck.

Does anyone else feel this way?

I haven't listened to the new album yet or even a song from it, but my two favorite Beck albums are Midnight Vultures and Sea Change. It is hard to believe the same person made those two records, as they are on different ends of the "fun/gloom" spectrum.

Anyway...."Debra" is a great song, i think I'll queue it up now.

I gave it few listens. Nothing spectacular. It's just Beck. I guess it still has to grow on me.

I like several of the songs on it a lot. I have a hard time with it as an album though. Why does everyone think it's cool not to end a song. They just cut it short and then have three seconds of awkward silence before the next song, and then they do it again at the end of that song. It makes it sound like a mix tape someone threw together. Good tracks, but there is no flow.

I'm only my third listen now, but I like it a lot. Probably his hardest-hitting, most direct album. I'm liking the lyrics too, probably his least obtuse since Sea Change. The music is downright minimalist compared to the overstuffed The Information. I liked that album when it came out, but revisiting it a few weeks ago, I found that it drags and peters out towards the end. This one cuts the fat.

A few times, I found this album reminding me of Spoon's Kill the Moonlight (that's a good thing). Anyway, I'm happy.
